over40driver
My 97 has only 129,000 miles, but has spent the last 9 months beeing not driven. 50% of the time when I start up I have a lifter collapsing and it only runs on 5 cly. When its not sticking it runs like new. Im thinking about trying a quart of Marvel Mystery oil with a second oil change to loosen things up. Any better ideas? Brian P
How noisy is it when first started up, and how long does it take to go away? A lifter that collapses to the point of causing a misfire probably has internal damage. However, if a lifter is noisy enough to get picked up by the knock sensor, it could potentially pull back timing a lot and cause rough idle and such. over40driver
Thats the weird thing, it will either collapse and run bad or not collapse and run perfect. Its about 70% does not. I changed oil today and substituted 1 qt. of Marvel Mys. oil, hoping that will clean out any debris in the lifter. Ive only had a chance to put 500 miles on the car and 1 prev. oil change. For an Ex. cond. car it was about as dirty of oil as Ive ever seen. urbex
I thought driving it fixes it...but I really have no idea. Or maybe that's just if it's sticky, I don't know.
