Timm Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) I'll let the pics do the talking, since there's too much to talk about! For those that didn't know, we did an engine swap last fall and we decided to paint the engine bay while it was still empty! The old windshield was cracked so we opted to go get a new one! $85 for the glass and about $20 for 3M's Windo-Weld ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ********************CONTINUED ON NEXT POST************************** vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Edited August 22, 2011 by Timm Quote
Timm Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 As far as any errors, there were 2 runs in the color and 1 in the clear, the clear was on the drivers side door handle, will probably fix that. One of the color runs in completely un-noticeable on the edge of one if the bottom side moldings. The other will bother me until I die, front and center where the emblem goes on between the headlights. It's a horizontal run. I probably will just deal with it though as I'm tired of all this body work for now. Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Love it - the stripes. I also like the work you guys do! have you buffed it yet? it still looks a little dull. Quote
Night Fury Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Damn!!! get some!!!! Thats a ton of work, yo!! Quote
Psych0matt Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 not a fan of the color really, and the stripe color kinda clashes IMO, but as far as the work put in and how it turned out, simply amazing! Quote
White93z34 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Much better then the forest green it was, not a fan of the stripes really but it looks damn good otherwise, good work! Quote
94 olds vert Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Looks good. The color of the wheels and the color of the car compliment each other nicely. Quote
white4d96 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Not a fan of the stripes but that color combo... Quote
Timm Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for all the comments! The stripes were more of a last minute thing we decided on. When I was mixing the Bahama Blue, my co-worker took a quart can and started pouring in aluminum, blue, black, & purple lol. We decided to use it, but decided on the white outlines as to try to keep it from "clashing" too much with the blue. And the clear still needs to be cut in. I was going to give it a shot, but don't trust myself as far as accidentally burning through the clear. Maybe if I had a little practice on a horrible paint job I'd try, but this one turned out too good to "practice on" I'll take it to a body guy to give it that shine it needs! Quote
Night Fury Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Can't wait to see how she turns out! Quote
91LuminaEuro Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Nice! Great Job, i agree, the two color stripes I'm not a fan of, either one of those two colors alone would have looked better, but props for all the hard work, i love the blue!! Quote
urbex Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I see you're from Davison...what year did you graduate? Quote
Peco Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Nice work, not a fan of the stripes myself. Quote
virtuetovice Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I like it a lot. I wish I had the provisions to paint my car this way. Looks like a lot of people are doing paint lately.... Quote
Psych0matt Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 another mid michigan member, wooo! We're gonna have to start having a few mini meets Quote
Euro Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Wow, now that's some work. Like everybody's said I'm not a fan of the stripes, but the body color looks great. Now more pics of the Impala! Quote
Timm Posted April 13, 2011 Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I see you're from Davison...what year did you graduate? Just graduated last year (2010) another mid michigan member, wooo! We're gonna have to start having a few mini meets Lol, not too soon! Very busy!! We took the GTP shell to the JY for scrap metal (The Cutty Engine donor) upon doing so something must have fell off of it and hit the Impala while driving. Giant chip in the windshield. It's in my garage now with the windshield cut out. (well the top & sides, still working on the bottom.) Also, I'm in the process of fiberglassing my 7" touchscreen to the carputer into the dash bezel of the Impala. The Cutty started making some very strange noises while braking... The only thing I did during the paint-job was change the rear brakes. Take off right rear wheel to find the trailing arm is broken in half! :-( Not to mention my moms 99 1/2 ton chevy van's front brakes are squealing now, so thats on my to-do list as well. And Emma's Dad wants me to put 2 new front wheel bearings in his newer Saturn Vue soon. SO, it's a busy week! But when all is well and I've got some free time a mini-meet sounds fun! edit---- At least we have our back-up vehicle!!! A 1996 Buick Regal! Just like my first car, except it's the "limited" instead of "custom" trim, so it has quite a few more options! :-) Got it for $900 in CL, had to put about $200 into it for a full tune up & a turn signal switch. I also switched out the crap plastic LIM gaskets for the new aluminum ones. (3800) Edited April 13, 2011 by Timm Quote
Psych0matt Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 lemme know if you ever need a hand, I miss my cutty, and I still have random vert parts in my garage. Hoping to find another someday when it lines up with me having money Quote
urbex Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I only know a couple people from Davison, and they graduated in '09 Quote

Hoping to find another someday when it lines up with me having money Have you ever replaced one of these tops??? This is still the original on here and it's time for a replacement. The cheapest place with the rear glass + defog + headliner installed is Kimballs for $1200. It'd be a real $$ saver to do it ourselves! I only know a couple people from Davison, and they graduated in '09 Hmmm... none of them are ringing any bells! Sorry man! Quote
Breakdown Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Reading this thread, more like looking through the pics was a humbling experience. It's gonna sound cheesy, but you should be proud. That looks great! Quote
