Penglii
How easy should it be to spin the AC delete pulley by hand after it's installed? I got the one that includes the bolt and spacers... so it should just bolt on and be good to go. However if I tighten the bolt so that everything is snug, then I can't easily spin it by hand. If I back off a bit so that it spins pretty easily, then there is some play and that seems bad too. Probably should be snug (cause that just makes sense) and the belt will still turn the pulley just fine and I'm just a dork... but if anyone has some advice I'd appreciate it. NTRCOOL
I wish I could be of assistance. I didn't have any trouble installing mine. If you could snap some pics and this weekend I'll try to get some of mine. Maybe we can see if there is something causing the problem. Penglii
I wouldn't say I'm having trouble installing it... so much as I'm second guessing myself. I searched around and got a torque spec of 40 lb-ft and tightened it to that. Everything looks right... the pulley is just harder to spin than I imagined it would be. I guess when I compare it to the a/c compressor that I removed, that's also harder to spin than I imagined it might be as well... so I betcha I'm just psyching myself out. I'll know for sure when I turn the key (for the first time this year) either this weekend or next weekend... Gonna put a couple of silver dots on the pulley with a sharpie so it will be super easy to see how well its spinning.
RobertISaar
if a pulley is allowed to run cockeyed, you'll damage a serpentine belt in literally seconds... i found this out a few days ago when replacing the tensioner pulley on a 95 cavalier 2200... it was running for about 10 seconds, i saw the belt running on the edge of the pulley, killed the motor and the belt was already starting to fray. Penglii
Hmmm... so you think I should take the pulley off, make mega sure that everything is flush, and then reinstall? I know I sortof expected it to spin freely like the tensioner pulley does, but it totally does not and maybe it's not designed to? I don't think anything is cockeyed, but removal and re-installation sure are cheap insurance.
over40driver
I would expect it to spin freely, as its just an idler pulley. Something is not right.
Penglii
I should have updated this right away... but I will do it now. I found the problem. For some reason the pulley was rubbing on the hard coolant line and this was causing it to bind. I added a couple of washers to the pulley and it works much better now.
