94vertluvr
Let me first ask...does anyone know the signs of a faulty timing belt tensioner??? Other than maybe the obvious timing issue; does it have a loose feeling when trying to move in when it is properly installed? Should it feel tight when I pull off the cover and look at it? Is there some visible sign of a faulty one??? I do not want to replace it if it's not needed. I don't know what the rest of you who've had to buy one have found out but at my local chev dealer he said it was $144 + tax!!! Are you F'g kidding me???!!!! For a small pulley and small actuator??? Does anyone know where I can get one for a REASONABLE $$$? Any help on this?:think:Thanks!

White93z34
last I checked the tensioner actuator was a dealer part you REALLY WANT to replace that bugger, I had one of those leave me 90 miles from home, seen em go enough times to always replace em. 94vertluvr
Yea Al, I think this is just the pulley tensioner...not the actuator. Do you or does anyone know where to get the actuator? I tried to pull up the part by number but it wasn't there at Rockauto.
Galaxie500XL
The actuator is getting hard to find. I replaced mine last year, dealer charged me $125.00. It took some calling around to even find one. Only 3 dealers in Tennessee even had one! Also hard to find is the bushing plate the actuator mounts on. Found one at a dealer in Virginia, for $8.00. Keep your old one, just in case. Won't be too long before this part is impossible to find at any cost.
Galaxie500XL
Try this: http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-actuator-24503860.html The show they have the actuator (P/N 24503860), for $79.05..way cheaper than mine cost last year. They say they do NOT have the actuator plate (P/N 24503861), which would give you a new bushing for the new actuator to ride on. Rockauto did at one time carry the Gates timing belt set, which included all the pulleys...I'd strongly recommend replacing them. Cause of timing belt failure on my car was an overheating (bad) pulley bearing, which melted one of the plastic idler pulley wheels. I put a replacement engine in my cutlass and used the old tensioner, and then about 200 miles later I was replacing the tensioner

Galaxie500XL
Big Stone Gap....but I got the only one they had at that time. Keep in mind, it was about this time last year, so things may have shifted since then... Were you able to order the actuator from the web link I found?
