dykz34
The TGP came with the 4T60.
brian89gp
440-t4 and 4t60 are the same thing, different naming conventions. The TGP 4t60 was special, a regular 4t60e probably won't last too long. If you can find out what was done differently to the TGP trans and apply it to the 60e then it would be worthwhile. The 4t65e and 4t60e are both rated within 5 ft/lbs of each other (HD versions), the 4t60e having a 200rpm higher limit in the gears. The 4t65 will bolt in place of a 60e, all you have to do is figure out the electronics (the torque converter is done differently and the pressure control solonoid is now electric). I guess you could call the 4t65 a newer version of the 4t60e, some parts are better some are worse tough. Stock for stock, it is not worth the effort of swapping from a 60e to a 65e, if your blowing up one you'll undoubtly blow up the other. Modded (ASG vs Intense) the 65e might be a better choice because it has a much larger market behind it funding developments and appears that it will be around for a while longer. 1badtgp
So, I have the 4t60. And the whole time I was thinking it was a 440-t4. Crap... Btw, the 3800 trans was the same 4t60 correct? I have one of those laying around right now, and could have that one rebuilt for the tgp instead of having the car otre apart in my shop. dykz34
I would rebuild the 4T60 that is in the car now because Brian said that they are stronger. Plus, who knows what gearing is in the 3800 tranny you have.
m0sh_man
Well if its an engine/trans combo thats been used in the fiero then i can probably shed alot of info on it, i own 3 fiero GT's and they really are not very light, most fiero's weight between 2700-3000lbs depending on options/body styles, i believe first gen cavalier z24's were about 2500lbs or so. on http://www.fiero.nl FieroX runs a highly modded 3800 series II supercharged in his 86SE fiero with 4t65e-HD trans i think he runs about 11.5-11.6 and if im not mistaken still gets about 30MPG highway outta the setup. other than a change in pulleys he drives it just like he does at the track and its totally street legal. Darth Fiero runs a 3800 series II turbocharged and ive not heard of him having any problems with its setup, but its not quite as powerful as the supercharged version, but he likes the sound of the turbo over a supercharger. One guy has a 3.4L DOHC turbocharged running about 7PSI on it and puts down about 300-350 crank HP after smoothing out the intake and heads and adding headers. my 91 GTP is a 3.4L DOHC 5 speed and i have no plans to mod it as of yet. i have yet to drive it even, i got it tuesday. i have a 85 FieroGT 2.8L 4 speed, an 85GT 2.8L automatic, and a 87GT 3.4L 5 speed the TH125C in the automatic can be built to hold alot of power, but the 4t65e-HD is a much better tranny and is nicer on the interstate. Personally if i was going to convert an automatic w-body i would look into getting a 4 speed tranny from a 85-86 v6 fiero the 3:65 gear ratio and the long gears would make it a blast to drive. and i firmly believe that the muncie 4 speed will hold 250-350HP reliably as long as you have sensable shifts from 1st to second. matthew
