The end could be near...

Tonight, I decided to take the car out, put some fresh fuel in it, drive it around a little bit, so I went to the carwash to give it a quick bath. On the way home, decided to take the long way home. Well upon entering this one road, I punched it, and it just bounced off the limiter... I guess she doesnt like to downshift from 2-1 anymore. So needless to say shes starting to slip... But the weird thing is, later on down the road, I was in 1st and punched it, and shifted to 2nd with no problem at all. Although normal driving, 1-2 is starting to get sluggish...

So I do believe she is on her way out. :(

Just means its time for a 5 speed swap!!

this answer is ALWAYS appropriate.

plus, i can get you on the nAst1 mask... i think it can control a 4T60E anyways, but manual trans is guaranteed.

Not necessarily. This could be the typical flooring it while turning; fluid sloshes to the side and pump sucks air. My old 91 Euro would do this on every very hard turn (especially left hand turns for some reason) and kickdown. 200K miles, trans shifted beautiful otherwise. Where your turning a corner when you mashed 'er down?

I've had this problem myself after a trans fluid flush/filter change. I was a touch low after refill, and during a fairly robust left hand turn, it felt like it dropped straight into neutral. Got out of it, straightened out, and didn't have a problem after that.

GM made a memo to overfill the transfluid on these cars. Wasn't received by everyone who does work on them, and some never read them. I had one mechanic not overfill and this happened to me, he wasn't changing the fluid, I just had a slight leak around the gasket that he was taking care of.

The answer to this problem is topping up the fluid, not accepting that is normal operating parameters for the car.

For what it's worth, I'd like to say that's his problem, but I just don't think it is. I believe that his time with that transmission is limited.

I know the fluid is a little low. I need to top it off. But as for the corner thing... I was merging onto the road, but I honestly dont remember if I was in the corner and punched it or just got out and merging into the far lane when I punched it.

Is there a TSB or anything about the fluid level in the transmission?

Ill have to top it off, and report back later.

i've never seen a TSB that suggested it, but i throw in 1 quart over the full line on 4T60 and 4T60Es without issue... no foaming or anything.

Sorry, haha forgot all about posting here!

Well I toppd it off, but havent done any 2-1downshifts yet. Ive punched it, and even still in first, it doesnt slip. The 1-2 might be a touch better, but still isnt as firm as Id like to be. Then again it was never as firm as I wanted.

You could do the old 4t60e homemade shift kit. Either switch out the 1-2 shift spring with a 3-4 shift spring. I forget the exact way to do the washer method.

Id rather have a 5spd than a shift kit in an auto. I took the car out the other day, and hammered on it getting onto the highway. 2-1 shift was perfect, as were the rest of the shifts.

Car wont be out for a while now with this snow were "suppose" to be getting...
