94vertluvr
Can someone please tell me if it should take someone 8 - 12 hours to set the timing on the 3.4L DOHC?? The shop I took mine too said this is what it would take and in their $$$ it was $800 - $1200 to do that job! Now if that doesn't sound like a piece of crap I don't know what does! :think:I think I could spit nails on this one! Any guidance on this would be appreciated!!! RobertISaar
according to alldata, timing belt on a 94 3.4 should take 5 hours, plus another half hour if the belt is broken to readjust the cams.
Danspeed1
That's about what it takes me now.. 4-5 hours and I always readjust the cams using homemade tools. When I did it the second time (the first time took a month), it took me about 10-12 hours to do it. Many shops are very unfamiliar with these motors (at least in my area), most don't even want to touch it. I would say the price is high but would expect to pay about $600-700 at least to have a new belt installed. DG
digitaloutsider
Do it yourself or find someone with the tools to do it for you. Good luck finding a shop that even has the tools to do the belt anymore. Where are you located?
Psych0matt
I've done a few myself without tools (used the timing marks, but not always the best results). I was fortunate enough when I was down in school, I called about 6 different local shops and none would touch it at all, but I found the manager at the Meineke and he was all about it, even had his own PERSONAL set of timing tools. He did a bunch of my work, and I actually had to have him time it once, to the tune of $500. So I don't think its outrageous considering what needs to be done, but I also know if you have some patience and mechanical ability, it can be done
dodgethis
I don't know how long it would take, but what I will say is it does not cost $60.00 dollars to change a fuel filter on a w-body. At least it doesn't dun her' in Tennessee. /end Derail
Crazy K
I made some timing tools myself out of 1/2" x 2" metal bar. if you are up for the challenge i still have an extra homemade set.
