Thundernuts1979
1995 lumina 3100 180k miles. replaced plenum gasket to fix a vacuum leak. the idle before hand was 3000 rpm(part of the gasket was blown out) after re assembling, the idle was consistently 1500 to 2000 rpm. Replaced IAC and did reset procedure. when I took the EGR valve off the plenum, I did re use the gaskets, could this be causing my high idle problem? I have checked all the vac lines and sprayed the intake with carb cleaner to eliminate leak suspects. Unfortunately I ran out of Carb cleaner and its late...I will check more in the morning but just asking for Ideas, or if anyone has had a Bad EGR gasket cause an idle that high? AL
Yep, if you dont clean the gasket surface of the EGR and replace the gasket, it can easily cause a high idle... Happened on my 3400 GA... Once I replaced the EGR gasket, it finally idled normal... But I had a bad TB gasket causing a vacuum leak also before that
Thundernuts1979
Thanks, I kind of assumed that was the issue, my throttle body gasket is brand new as well as the plenum, This car was previously owned by my sister who is notorious for being rough on cars, and I have done many many repairs on it. Guess I am going to the parts store in the morning! Thanx again for your input
