madcut96 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 You know those hard plastic things that go over your windows so you can still roll them down a crack while it's raining? I'm thinking of putting them on my 96 Cutlass but don't know if they're worth it or if they look good. So, just wondering if anyone here has done it and has some pics or whatever. Quote
slick Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I think anyone that had them has probably removed them and promptly threw them into the trash. Ugly. Quote
Psych0matt Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 They do come in handy, although they don't look all that great. Quote
urbex Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I like them on my truck. Handy as hell, and at least on that thing they came standard from the factory on all of them....so they're designed into the body more than aftermarket ones. Quote
Psych0matt Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I think they look bad mostly because it doesnt continue onto the rear windows (on any vehicle). Not that they'd have a purpose on the other windows, but it just kinda doesn't look right Quote
Twenty Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I've actually been after a set, so if anyone could point me to a supplier it'd be great. I've tried before but the car was 'too old' and there weren't any in stock. Quote
intern8tion9l Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 i had them on my cutlass, loved them; had the same set for 10 years and they didn't even fall off. i also have the full front and rear set on my truck Quote
white4d96 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I was considering getting some and just haven't gotten around to it. I've been told to avoid AVS as they are just stick-on and look like crap (the ones you get at autozone and advance.) I think weathertech is okay though, but they are much pricier. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 I have a set of ventshades on my truck and love them. Quote
mfewtrail Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Here's an old picture of a '91 Grand Prix GT w/ window vents. Quote
MemphisMan Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 See, I think that looks okay. It comes down to what you prefer: Form or Function. Both would be nice though. Quote
gp1991 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 personally i would never put them on my car but everyone has their own style. Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 i had em on my truck. also good for when you park in the sun, crack the windows a little when you get out and the truck/car will not be like SUPER hot. Quote
jeremy Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Fwiw. They are great for smokers when it is raining out ... Quote
GOT2B GM Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 I want to get some of the "in channel" ones for my truck (they don't stick onto the paint Quote
rich_e777 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I had them for the longest time on my `94 CS, they work pretty good and i thought they look ok. I had one of them crack and fly off going down the interstate but i wish i still had them. Being able to crack the windows keeps the fog of the glass sometimes. Quote
madcut96 Posted March 27, 2011 Author Report Posted March 27, 2011 I heard that weathertech makes them with a lower profile, so they don't stick out that far from the car, so they'd probably look better. But they don't make them for the '96 W-Bodies. So that's a bit disappointing. Quote
white4d96 Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 The weathertechs are in-channel, whereas the AVS are stick-on on the outside of the car. Quote
Brian P Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 I've had a set of AVS/Ventshades for upwards of 10 years now (transferred them to a 2nd car) and they definitely serve the purpose. Quote
madcut96 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Report Posted March 31, 2011 ^ Those look nice enough. Does anyone know if anyone makes in-channel ones that'll fit us? Quote
Pabz Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 I think anyone that had them has probably removed them and promptly threw them into the trash. Ugly. not worth the money, and yes, mine went into the trash. Quote
