RobertISaar
the 4 banger may have been the base engine, but that doesn't mean that many cars came with it.... besides, duke lumis are like the most unexciting vehicles to ever grace GM. a whopping 80something HP pushing a 3400 pound vehicle + cargo + passengers.... Galaxie500XL
Not to mention, it's one of the few engines that I can tell are in a car just by the noise they make. I really can't refer to it as a "sound"...
RobertISaar
yeah, it's more of an endless groaning. now..... a Q4 lumi would be balls to the wall fun. too bad they never made them. there are the relatively rare 2.2 lumis out there though, they fared better in MPG and performance than the duke. 5speedz34
I've seen a pretty good amount of Iron Dukes but very few 2.2's. You're nuts though the 3.1 isn't even all that adequate.
ManicMechanic
according to compnine, 2.2 was never available in a Lumina.
5speedz34
I want to say that's incorrect. I think the 2.2 replaced the Iron Duke in '93 or '94.

RobertISaar
2G1WN5442P9236020 plug that into the GM TIS site and it registers it as an available option for 93 and shows the BCC that applies to it.

5speedz34
I can't imagine a 4cyl being much more efficient than a 3.1 having to lug a car as big as a Lumina around.
