Breakdown
I'm doing more than flirting with the idea of taking a powertrain out of a 1996 Grand Prix and putting it inside of AMY. Aside from having to remove the computer and going to OBDII, and my DIC not functioning properly, is there anything else that will complicate this?? Upon completion I will be looking for a new DIC (I know, I know hard to find, I think that Ken has one). Also, does anyone know of which specific 2nd Gen DIC's will work in tandem with the first Gen DIC? For OBDII and 3100?? Thanks all.
Addicted to eaton
i Do know a 96 DIC, will not work in a 1997-2003 Grand prix. the data system uses a different version of U-art. So im going to guess a 1997 DIC will not work in a 1996. Plus the 1997-03 DIC are pretty useless, the give Avg mpg, range, oil life, and thats about it. they also tell you when your doors/trunk is open. I hope you can tell that with out having to use the DIC lol.

BXX
Depends on how you wanna do the swap. If your highjacking the entire powertrain, then the process of getting the correct sensors is solved. You wont have to swap anything over. IIRC the knock sensor, trans switch, 02 sensor, EGR, Coolant temp (I believe 95 was still a 2 sensor system), and the injector harness under the UIM is different from 95 to 96. Plus 96 you add a MAF (I love MAFs!) While not hard, just a pain if you have to hit up a junkyard for one sensor you forgot or dont have. So the entire powertrain swap just makes life easy. If you only want to use the 96 OBD2 engine harness, you will have to do minor rewiring at the C100 firewall connector. If you wanna rip out the entire interior, then swap in the 96 OBD2 interior harness and everything is plug and play. The second time around on my CS coming up, im going to use the 96 interior harness so everything is plug and play, no cutting and rewiring needed. Just takes more time. If you serious aboot this, I can help:thumbsup: I OBD2 swapped my 95 CS right after I got it with damn near no wiring diagrams. It didnt take long at all, and luckily Ken was near me at the Cleveland pullapart to snag a few sensors that I discovered were different while doing the swap. But we have to swap out the entire interior harness??? Shit!! I think that I might be able to handle that, but it's something that I should get going on prior to getting an engine hoist involved. BXX
You dont have to swap the interior harness. But you will end up having to do some rewiring of the C100 connector and then you have to do some wiring on the interior to add the OBD2 DLC (data link connector)

I wonder if said donor car has RKE - probably not, but that would influence me to pull the entire harness.
AL
Does 4 door (96) to 2 door (95) matter with the interior harness Bob?
BXX
Does 4 door (96) to 2 door (95) matter with the interior harness Bob? I would imagine so, but im note sure if the dash harness alone is different. Rich, thats another reason im going with a new OBD2 interior harness, to add RKE and auto HVAC without having to cut and splice in new circuits. pwmin
go for it! as he said, doing the C100 swap is pretty easy and doing the int. harness too shouldn't be too hard, just time consuming
Addicted to eaton
IIRC when you pull the interior wireing, it does not matter 4 door vs 2 door because how it plugs in. But make sure you pull the air-bag computer from the 1996 under the passenger side seat. its going to have a sligtly diff hookup on it. If you would like i have 100's of pictures of changeing them, and pulling the dash etc,

When I removed AJAM's interior, I left one switch on the driver's door and it wouldn't do a thing until the others were attached.
Addicted to eaton
the dash harness/door harnesses are not the same. the dash harness plugs into a box by both driver and passenger kick panel.

Door/window/RKE/Powah seat are all together though, sorry I know, we're changing gears, I doubt this car has RKE, so it will be pointless to check in all likelyhood.
