BXX
Figured I would make an actual thread on these. This is not a For Sale thread people, I have a thread for these here.. http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/49826-FS-Bxx-Coilover-Mounts Now for some madness:thumbsup: I started and got one rear set ready today. The rears take me a bit more time as I have to do all the cutting for them. Im gonna try to get a quote from my plate supplier for the cost on getting the steel plate in the shape of a diamond so all I have to do is round the edges, ream out the center hole, and drill the mounting holes. The end result im sure will be cleaner. But, these didnt come out too bad, but they arent perfect by any means. Steel plate marked and bolted to my bench vise, aka ghetto jig:lol: Rought initial cuts done, using my 3" air cutoff tool. General shape cut out. Using 2 die grinders, one with a carbide bit, the other with a stone bit, I was able to get them smoothed into the proper shape. Both pieces are not exact, but well within 1/16" shape tolerances. Holes drilled out and chamfered. Bottom mockup. Shows the spherical bearing retainer cup in the center, then the spring isolator retaining ring, and then the poly spring isolator Another shot. Topside shot showing the spherical bearing retainer cup. 2 of the crapiest pics on earth, but showing the overall profile. The rear set is ready to be welded up! And the front mounts. They start off as just steel plate rings. I cut the flat part with the 3" air cutoff tool, then drill the 3 mounting holes and chamfer them, and then ream out the center hole to the correct size. Bottom side mockup, the spring isolator ring shown was for mockup, I actually use some .109 wall tubing. These are showing the fronts welded up!! More to come as I get another rear set cut out, get them welded up this week, and then get them painted and ready to go:D
CSI_MuNkY
What thickness of plate are you using on those rears? Looks thin to me... Other than that nice job, beauty welds! Too bad you have to cover them up with the poly! See if you can find a laser cutter in your area. You will be surprised how inexpensive they can be! most can do up to 1" thick plate. My laser cutter contacts in Ontario are less expensive than any other type of cutting service (plasma, flame, water jet), those plates would probably cost me about $5 a piece in 1/4" material
BXX
Its 3/16" cold roll steel. Plenty thick enough:thumbsup: And yeah, im looking for someone to be able to waterjet or laser cut them. Now remember, my material costs in my area are gonna be very different in yours:thumbsup:
CSI_MuNkY
Your prices will probably be a lot lower... Our prices go up with fuel prices, and fuel here is way more expensive... 3/16" should suffice, it just looked thinner
