brianstarr58
I have a 95 Vert and one day the security light came on and stayed on. It's right above the 80 on the speedo. It doesn't affect the running of the car. What can I do to get the light off.
94 olds vert
Try your spare key and see if the light goes off.
RobertISaar
sounds like the VATS module went into fail-enable mode, meaning the wires inside your lock cylinder likely broke off while the engine was already running. i'd just disconnect the wire under the steering column and forget about it(thick yellow/orange casing IIRC). if the light REALLY bothers you, measure the resistance of the pellet in your key, then get a resistor from radioshack(or a potentiometer) to match it, then connect it between the terminals on the harness side, if it's adjusted correctly, the VATS module will think the correct key is in whenever it tests for the presence of it, and will continue making a 5 volt 50Hz, 50% duty cycle for the PCM so it won't shut off the injectors. i want to say the module also controls a relay that allows starter operation as well, but i'm not certain. otherwise, to fix it correctly, you'll likely have to pull the steering wheel and get at the cylinder.
