MaroonRegal
The 3800TPI and 3800 Series II are both very reliable engines. I'm sure you're thinking about the Series II here, so I'll talk about that one. The 3800 Series II N/A (L36) is what I have in my car. It is hella powerful at low speeds. If you want a car with respectable power below 80-90mph, the 3800 Series II is the best way to get that in a W-body. It's power at high speeds is not lacking, but it's not as powerful as an LQ1 (DOHC 3.4) when it comes down to highway power. The 3800 Series II Supercharged (L67) has even more power down low, and probably more up high too. I don't know how much a swap would cost you, but I'd say don't do an L36 swap. I love my L36, but if you're going to do a 3.8L swap, use the L67. The monetary difference between L36 and L67 will be worth the extra horsepower. If you can do the work yourself, the swap will only cost parts, so search eBay.
L67wanaB
Are you doing the work yourself? You will want the engine of course. Carparts.com (salvage search) shows a price range from 410.00 US - 3,200.00 US. I'm sure milage and condition is going to factor into it. You also want the trans. 2 Routes with this ... the 4-speed electronic - 400.00 US to 2,000.00 US. Or a 5-speed getrag 282 The PCM - 50.00 US - 200.00 US My almost finished tag, so far, is around 4,000.00 US. My engine, PCM, and trans (added after the original went thermal) cost me 1,100.00 even. That is with the inner axles and mounts. I spent 900 rebuilding the engine. Everything else my brother, cousin, and myself did. Is it worth it? That depends on you. I'm satisfied.
