92GP
I recently ordered an engine rebuild kit for my 92 Grand Prix 3.1L. The kit that was sent to me was for a chevrolet 3.1L v6 1992. Which, is the exact same motor, right? Wrong. Apparently the chevrolet 3.1L engine with ID VIN code "D" does not have the aluminum heads that the 92 Grand Prix 3.1L VIN "T" has. SO I am wondering what the differences are between the 2 kits? If any, OR if I am freaking out for no reason? (Apparently it is my fault that I did not specify to the part "specialist" that Pontiac starts with 'P' and Chevrolet starts with 'C' so I have no grounds to return it for a refund)
1QUICKHATCH
If its for an Iron head 3.1 (lumina van) it will not work. The intake gaskets will be different and the head geaskets are thiner. You can use the Iron head, head gaskets, they will raise your compression from 8.9 to around 9.4:1. Then get a intake gasket set for the aluminum head 3.
Andrew
the D code 3.1 was in the vans. Lumina, trans sport, silhouette. the W's got the T code 3.1 So like he said, the top end stuff will be different.
