92GP
Ok so I am no expert but I know a descent amount about cars. My father is a mechanic and I worked in his shop for 1 1/2 years, and I am an automotive refinisher/bodyman right now. ANYWAY - my problem is with my 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L - my idle is iffy. It will idle fine and then just all the sudden I will let off the gas or touch the brakes and it will die. It does not seem to be related to temperature, and I have searched high and low for a vacuum leak and cannot find 1. I replaced the IAC and the Throttle Position Sensor (it GREATLY helped my shifting issue but no help on the retarded idle). I am about to do a complete overhaul and rebuild of the engine, but I would like to fix this before hand so it won't be a problem later. Any ideas?? Thank you guy a ton
Andrew
When is the last time you cleaned the throttle body? MAP sensor maybe?
carkhz316
Check more basics, such as fuel pressure, spark and so on. Start small, easy and cheap and go from there. I know this is vague but oftentimes the simplest things are overlooked.
92GP
When is the last time you cleaned the throttle body?MAP sensor maybe? I cleaned it today actually, I took the IAC off and replaced it and broke the gasket for the connecting plate so I had to get the throttle body gasket set, and figured I'd just replace them all and clean it while I was at it. =/ I will look at the MAP sensor
