kolby Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) Christmas night I was driving when the car made a strange noise and stopped accelerating. I pulled over and let it sit for a while before I ran it through the gears. A little later, it was able to creep home while still making a horrible noise. When I had it towed to my fathers house a week later, it seemed that things changed. The noise can now only be heard while in park or neutral. It pulls strong in all gears except revers which doesnt seem to engage at all. Fluids were at the proper level but did seem to be a bit burned. Anyone know what exactly the problem is? 1996 Monte Carlo Z34 Edited January 30, 2011 by kolby Quote
kolby Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Whoa. Sorry for not putting that in the first place haha! It it a 1996 Monte Carlo Z34. Quote
AL Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Sounds like the trans is just burnt up Quote
tornado_735 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I'm going to go with Al here...those LQ1s eat transmissions like there's no tomorrow. Quote
kolby Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 Damn. I was hoping that it wasn't shot and that I could fix it. I don't think I will go as far as swapping the transmissions, the car is a bitch to work on. Quote
kolby Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 So nobody has another diagnosis besides that its ruined? Quote
tornado_735 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I mean, you could try a fluid and filter change, but it would be easier to just light $40 on fire and have the same result. That trans is toast. Quote
Brian P Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 sounds like failure of a hard-part. Usually a failed reaction drum causes those symptoms but IIRC it takes out gears 2-4 as well... Quote
Hairdo12 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 My money is on a failed reverse band. Probably got hung up and was partially engage while the car was in drive causing it to break. Quote
