Belt Slipping... WTF?

I took the GP for a nice drive around town yesterday (first day since I've got it back when I had the time and the roads weren't covered in snow), once it warmed up I WOTed it a few times. The battery light lit up at redline. Seriously? One of the things I had my mechanic replace while it was in the shop was t he tensioner, a BRAND NEW Dayco tensioner. This was because I knew the old one was shot and it was slipping bad under heavy acceleration. The new tensioner didn't really improve the situation much. So I'm asking... what else could be causing the belt to slip? Is the new tensioner I bought just most likely junk? The belt is in good shape as near as I can tell (I think it was replaced shortly before I bought the car).

On the 3.1 you can do it with no tools. is this true with the 3100s?

I usually use my 3/8ths ratchet. But yes the belt is more than likely stretched. Just cuz it looks ok doesnt mean it is.

So have you replaced the belt yet, or what?

I haven't touched the car since Sunday. Work, snow, and low temperatures tend to get in the way of such ventures. And why do you care? I mean, everyone is so sure it is the belt, it can't possibly be anything else...

Yes, and it completely required a half a dozen people posting the exact same thing, some of which were quite arrogant in their posts, rather than presenting perhaps another possible cause.

That's probably because the belt is the most likely cause of your problem and it would be unintelligent to try anything else or investigate further before replacing the belt itself, at least based on what we know. People won't present another possible cause if there aren't any other probable causes.

I say probable, because it is unlikely that anything else is causing the problem you're experiencing. Replace the belt and go from there.

i think teh blocks warped.. hey it could happen

On the same note, there could very well be a chipmunk in there with a miniature grease gun greasing up your belt when you're not looking, then hiding somewhere when you open the engine bay so you're none the wiser.

I wonder if a panda is hiding in there urinating on your belt when you go WOT... Id piss myself too if I were in the engine bay when someone was doing WOT, but a urinating panda is much worse than a chipmunk with a grease gun

Truthfully, it's the most posted, because it is the most obvious, easiest to replace, and the cheapest to replace. The belt SHOULD have been replaced while the rest of the parts were replaced. It was not wise of your mechanic to skip over this.

If it ends up not being the problem, then the next obvious troubleshooting area's are well posted as to what to check, and what to replace if the checked shows failure.
