Galaxie500XL
My '95 LQ1 has developed a miss under load, it appears that either a coil pack or the ICM is causing issues. I recall that it has been stated on here before that the coil packs from the 3.1 are the same as those used on the 3.4, but what about the ICM? Are they the same, and if so, for all years, or just certain model years?
mfewtrail
I did a quick check for you and every 60*V6 that I checked up until 2004 lists the same 10489422 part number.
Galaxie500XL
That helps a lot! The junkyards are full of 60 degree V-6's, around here, but very few LQ1's. It will cost me a lot less at the junkyard...not to mention it will save me time, since the other 60 degree engines don't put the coils below the exhaust manifold, making it much easier to get off the donor car. AL
I would try and pull the coils and icm from a low mile 3100 or 3400 since they are right on top and don't fail very often
94vertluvr
I took mine off my 3.4L and went to the junk yard and found an exact replacement model that was probly on a 3400 as the ICM looked like new and the coils came with it and a couple of them looked new; $50...money well spent! Galaxie500XL
Your advice was spot on...thanks! Got a 3400 ICM/set of coils for $42.00 at the local junkyard from a 2004 Olds Intrigue. Turned out that coil 2/5 was bad, there was a hole in the red silicone seal, suspect dirt/oil/water fried the coil. Replaced the red silicon seal with the one off of the "new" ICM. Runs much nicer on 6 rather than 4! Thanks; Daniel
cutlassdude96
you mean Alero?
Galaxie500XL
Um...yeah, I meant Alero...I just got back from working 3 time zones away above Seattle, outdoors 60 hours a week, constant rain, and near-freezing weather... I'm still a little fuzzy from the trip, but the problem got to the point the car was undrivable, so I had to fix it as soon as I flew in. I need to figure this out, almost EVERY time I leave town, the car breaks!
