Transmission cooling hose ID size needed

Recommended Posts

I have 1996 Regal, and the trans cooling lines are leaking at the jumper hose between the two metal ends. I think the cold winter warm ups are increasing the leakage because the fluid is more viscous and the pressures are higher when cold.

Anyone know the hose I.D. offhand? 3/8"?? I thought I saw it posted elsewhere, but can't seem to find that post now. Also, what is the specific name of the hose clamps that have a screw like a breeze clamp, but are smooth to the hose surface, not slotted?

Thanks

I'm assuming you mean they're leaking at the inlet/outlet lines. If this is the case. Dorman offers replacement lines for about $13 each(that's what I paid for them at O'reilly auto parts last year, I'm sure most/all other parts chains should have them in stock or should be able to get them for you).

Here's an example picture

and a link to the picture if direct linking doesn't work(you may have to copy/paste the image).

No, those are ok. It was the hoses that connect the ones pictured to the all metal tubes at the radiator side. Looks like someone repaired them before with the wrong hose and worm clamps. It was leaking bad where the worm clamp cut into the hose end.

I found that the ID is 3/8". Got some transmission cooling specific hose from Advance, along with fuel clamps as were suggested in another post. Those fuel clamps are a definite upgrade on any application I can think of where you might use a worm clamp. It worked great. Here are some pics of the hoses and clamps prior to installation.

After cleaning a bunch of accumulated muck from the leakage, its looking pretty good, and best of all, not leaking.

That and some new AC plug wires were tonight's fun. Next is rocker panel work. They are getting BAD!!
