turbodreamer
Back in June I purchased a '95 GP sedan SE with the 3100 V-6. The car just went over 100,000 miles and it looks and runs great. There is one problem that i need some help with. Sometimes when you start the car you hear a "thumping" type sound. It only does it for a few seconds and it does not occur everytime the car is started. It does not sound to me to be a metal on metal sound, in fact I can not say for sure where it is coming from. The rest of the time the cars runs very smooth and quite. Any help for the new noob on the block would be greatly appreciated. Redfox340
Welcome aboard. I would try to isolate where the sound or thud is coming from. Because right now, it could be a list of items... Track it down, repost where it's from and we'll be more than willing to help you out! - Erik
Robby1870
My sis's 95 Monte does something similar to that, only on start up, for maybe one second. We (me and my dad), just let it go, and dont worry about it. Its a solid car, so we dont think much of it
kiwi133
My z started doing that like a year and a half ago after the dealership worked on it but it has never affected anything, and I have never been able to reproduce it with the hood up trying to listen. its random
turbodreamer
Thanks for the quick responses. It sounds like the same kind of thing as a couple of your post. Only happens on startup (not always) and it only last a few seconds. Sometimes if feels more like its coming from underneath the front area of the car. I was wondering if it could be related to the exhaust or converter somehow. Its one of those things you take to the stealership and they won't be able to find anything. Its encouraging to hear that it doesn't seem to be anything to serious. Other than that the car just turned 100,000 miles and it looks and runs great. I bought it for my son to drive when he gets his permit in December. The only problem is I really like driving it.
