thikstik
On my 94 3.8 regal 4 door, 219k miles. Making noise from drivers side while going strait, i can feel the hum in my left foot. I put on a new National bearing...no change. It happens going straight, but if I steer to right at all, it goes away. Ft struts/rack, tie rods are all tight, car drives great. Cant get play from anywhere. And got two different yet used tires on ft...nothing helps it. Im scared that an output shaft bearing in trans could cause this, but noise is not changed much by unloading power flow. Any help...thanks PS-Do I have it correct in saying that a noisy driv side bearing would get louder if car is steered to right.?
AL
If the noise gets louder when turning right, then the drivers side would be going out... But in your original post, you said when you turn right, the noise goes away... Which would point to pass. side wheel bearing
thikstik
Good ,i was hoping to hear that. So ill try the old bearing that never really was bad, and put it on pass side and see what it does. Thanks Al ps- I wonder if it will be happy having to roll another direction after 218k going mostly one way. Or if the bearings are interchangeabe rt/lft FTM. AL
They are interchangeable, but if your willing to invest in a new one, that would be your better option
thikstik
[ :)That did it. I agree about buying new, ill just find a low mile jyard part. Interesting how the noise actually vibrated my drivers side floorpan...and no amount of tugging at wheel would reveal any play. Learn ( or relearn somn new all the time). Just glad the part didnt involve the persnickity 4T60!
AL
I actually have a vibration on my drivers floor pan also but I just replaced my wheel bearings and balanced my tires but its not enough to bug me yet
