Crimson Fury Z Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 well, for about 2 months i've been having an issue with my tranny. its hesitant to go from a stop, like something isn't engaging right away. if i let the car warm up, the issue is not as noticable. since its been getting cold out, the problem is way worse, and the tranny whines until it warms up. aside from needing to have fluid 'n' filter swap done, its not losing any fluid. i'd figure i'd ask here and get an idea of what could be going on before i take it in. AL Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I take it its the Impala with a 3400? Make sure the fluid level is full Quote
mfewtrail Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Slow engagement(especially in cooler temps where the fluid is thicker) can be caused by a clogged/partially clogged filter. Quote
Crimson Fury Z Posted November 30, 2010 Author Report Posted November 30, 2010 i do hope thats the case. i'll be able to take care of it this weekend. when its cold, the car will barely go. Quote
thikstik Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 113,xxx Did you ever find what problem it was? I posted about two cars , a 1994 lumina 3.1 and my 94 regal 3.8. Mine only does it rarely. Both cars have good fluid/filter. I think it could be related to the thrmal valve keeping fluid out of balance between valve body side case and pan. Quote

I think it could be related to the thrmal valve keeping fluid out of balance between valve body side case and pan. i have discovered that there is a checkvalve in one of the cooler lines at the trans. If bad, it may be what causes this to happen. Should be an easy fix. Quote
