GOT2B GM Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Anyone have a good writeup / pinouts for both clusters and what pins need to be changed? Oil pressure sending unit need to be changed? Any additional wires need to be run? How hard is it to disassemble the plug? Thanks Quote
ManicMechanic Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Do a search. I'm pretty sure Ken made one. The Digital cluster will not have Airbag or Security lights, of course. Yes. Yes. One to the ALDL. Easy. Quote

GOT2B GM Posted November 18, 2010 Author Report Posted November 18, 2010 I know it can be done, Jay (manicmechanic) and Shawn (gnatgosplat) have both installed UB3's in 94 verts. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 No, I didn't. Rockfangd and Psych0matt had done it. Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Iirc I had to run a wire from the aldl, but I could wrong, that might have just been for a DIS Quote
ManicMechanic Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Not yours? Whoops, I read UB3 as DIS. Yes, I had a digital UB3 in my '94. Taylor put one in it for awhile too, but went back to analog. Quote

Crazy K Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 P.S. cause the text limit forced me to a second post.... LAST BUT NOT LEAST... IMPORTANT!!!!!! READ: to avoid confusion, you should tag and mark each wire so that no two wires get confused. I'm not responsible if you forget which wire is which and render your vehicle inoperable, or cross wires, start a fire, burn down your house, block neighborhood, or cause the start of World War III (or is it IV, V, or VI?). I recommend making high quality SOLDER joints, complete with heat shrink tubing. I prefer to "twin" my connectors so that the OEM plug is still present, and the new plug is connected into the wiring rendering either plug available for whatever reason you may not even have thought up yet. You may have a dud cluster, might decide to sell the car, or maybe the replacement cluster's mileage will void your tire warranty. Plan for the worst but hope for the best and make this type of mod reversible! UNHOOK YOUR BATTERY WHILE DOING WIRING!!! IMPORTANT!!!!!!! CHECK BOTH WIRING DIAGRAMS BEFORE YOU START TO MAKE SURE IT MATCHES THE VEHICLE AND DONOR PART YOU ARE WORKING WITH. IF YOU FIND AN ISSUE, DOCUMENT IT SO I CAN CORRECT IT!!!!!! I am doing what I can to help, but I AM NOT LIABLE FOR YOU MAKING MISTAKES! Quote
GOT2B GM Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 So you do not recommend repinning the connector, rather splicing in a digi UB3 connector so that I can choose from one or the other at any given time. I planned on marking all wires with tape before removing them from the connector so that wires the same colour would not get confused. Quote
AL Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 I agree with the splicing in of the other connector, that way you could revert to the original if ever needed Quote
GOT2B GM Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 I'll have to try and find a pigtail at the yard Quote
Bake82 Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 Matt I will have a converted wire harness out of my 88 cutlass soon. It worked fine on my UB3 cluster. Email me if it will help!! Quote
GOT2B GM Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 repinned harness or an adaptor? If its a repinned harness I'll just take the plug with 6" + of wire How soon are you thinking? Quote
Crazy K Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 repinned harness or an adaptor? If its a repinned harness I'll just take the plug with 6" + of wire How soon are you thinking? Personally, I would actual cut and splice both another 94 and 90 connector onto the wires that went to the oem plug, meaning that the original plug would be discarded when complete. And you would have a quick and easy swap to change clusters as needed with no fumbling in between. Make it about 30 to 40 cm if you splice the one connector into the other. Plenty of extra so you can tuck the other farther away... and you might confuse your Canadian bretheren with that ancient Sumerian hokey pokey imperial shit! Quote
