bronze93
Ok, I've been reading about oil leaks cuz mine has one and I'm thinking it is the oil pump drive o-ring. I wish I had searched this when I had the intakes off doing the gaskets. I did do the LIM gaskets and the gasket below that. I've read how to do it in the FAQ's but have a question. Do I follow the directions for the 3.1 and then apply Ken's method towards the end? How long does this normally take? While I'm doing this is there anything else gasket or o-ring wise that I should replace? Does the oil pressure sensor usually leak? My leak appears to be coming from the area under the throttle body but I can't tell for sure as the oil comes from that area and spreads over the transmission going both towards the front and rear of the car. Crazy K
99% chance that you have a dist drive leak. remove the upper intake minimum for clearance. I learned recently that the oil driving dummy cam has a cover located under the lower intake can also leak... it has a paper gasket and is easy to service if you are willing to do the work of pulling the upper and lower intakes off, which you should probably do anyhow to install new gaskets there if you have never done so before. i have it in pictures, but you would use a cut paper ring to wrap, and stretch the brown silicone o ring over the top of the modified distributor cap carefully... etc etc apparently sometimes people have had the cap pop loose while doing the dist drive... clean it and sRTV silicone it back in place, it is not a pressure seal holding oil back, but rather covers the bearings in the top of the unit. bronze93
When I replaced the intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower) about a month ago, I replaced the gasket on the valley floor cuz it came with the gasket set. I'm assuming that is the oil driving dummy cam cover (it sits on the valley floor). It was a paper gasket and a pain in the ass the scrape off but I did it. So I'm going to have to drain the coolant and remove the upper manifold again. Ain't that a pain. Is there anything else you would recommend to remove? Does the exhaust crossover have to be disconnected? Thanks
