nelson480 Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 SO... The 3.4 seems to be losing a quart every 800-1000, and i didnt know where the oil was coming from until i looked thru the intake and seen a pool of oil in the valley on the passenger side, pretty sure its the Oil distribution pan? Anyways i bought the new intake gasket set and FelPro is nice enough to give you the pan gasket along with the EGR gaskets, is there anything special i need to know about changing the intake gaskets? Because the last set i changed on the old engine, that car NEVER idled right again! Quote
nelson480 Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 NOBODY has done the intake on the 3.4 DOHC??? Quote
zetabird Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 ive got the same problem but usualy on these there a round plug that was the original distributor on the block its were most leak at there are a bunch of how tos on here Quote
94 olds vert Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 I bet the o-ring for the oil pump is leaking. That is really common for these engines. http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/8442-O-Ring-(Oil-Pump-Drive-Seal)-Fix-(Pictures) Quote
nelson480 Posted November 8, 2010 Author Report Posted November 8, 2010 WELL after tearing off the intake and doing all that hopefully no leaks, i bought the engine thats in the car from Crazy K and he already did the oil pump drive so that couldnt have been the culprit. Ill be monitoring it for a few days to see it it sealed up, the old gasket was a real brittle old bitxh and was a pain to scrape off. but hopefully the new gasket will keep oil leaks away, for now at least. remember, its not always the oil pump drive leaking lol Quote
Crazy K Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 You could be clearer, Dan! I did a double gasket job on this engine's oil dist cap, per my FAQ instructions. The leak he observed appears to have been in the cover plate that covers the floor of the valley over the dummy/oil drive cam. Quote
