What's stoping my 95 cutty L67 swap from running?

This is going to be an odd first post.

Well actually, my old account of 1996regal couldn't be recovered...?

The email thing that's supposed to help reset the password never seemed to work for me.

But anyways!

I got my GF a 1995 Cutlass convertible. (Ugly green. being repainted Bahama Blue)

The 3.1 had oodles of sludge and stuff and a leaky LIM. Was going to repair, but why throw money into an engine we both hate?

So we decided to take the dive into our l67 swap!!!

Here's the specifics:

PCM: Junk Yard 98 Regal GS

Engine & Trans. Donor: 1997 GTP

Engine wire harness: Junk Yard 1998 Lumina 3.8L

(Took the MAP sensor plug from the GTP and soldered to the Lumina harness)

Driver Axle: New 98 MC LTZ

Pass. Axle: GTP / Cutty Frankenstein

Stock mounts.

98LTZ P/S pressure line.

97GTP downpipe (from donor car)

Now for the diagnosis:

The car WILL RUN on starting fluid. It even revs up just fine for 2 seconds or so.

(So the ignition system is all perfect.)

The fuel pressure is fine at 50PSI in run position, and stays at 50 while cranking.

My friend brought home the TechII from the auto shop. We ran a test (forget the name) where it pulses each injector for 1 second. After each injector "pulse test" I could start the car for a quick 1/4 of a second or so. (More than usual)

(All 6 injectors checked out okay and all sounded normal.)

So all 6 injectors work fine!

And also the fuel pressure is fine!

So whats the catch?

I must be missing something??

Is there some OBDII thing I forgot to do?

I thought the only thing to do was get a OBDII plug, and add in the Pin 59 on C1 (Class II Serial Data) (purple wire) and a constant power wire to go from OBDI to OBDII.

It for sure sounds like a security issue. However, I didn't see anything security related on the PCM pinnouts..?

The only thing that I think might maybe possibly be a problem is pin 15 of C1 (Serial data UART) (tan). If I'm on the right track, that wire tries to communicate with onboard modules such as the BCM and radio and HVAC and maybe (?) the gauge cluster.

Would that cause a no injector pulse issue?

I decided not to use the 97 PCM from the donor car due to the fact that over 1/2 the pins would have to be relocated. And I read in a post 20 pages ago that 97PCMs had tough security on them?

Whats the security?

Whats the key?

Wheres the miracle button to make this thing run?

Thanks again guys, and yes, I'll post pics when were done!

You cant use the Buick PCM. It wants to see a Serial Data signal from the BCM. Not the standard Fuel Enable signal from the anti-theft module that your CS uses, that Grand Prixs do as well.

You should have just a Grand Prix PCM, or the easiest, the PCM from the 98 Lumina and reflashed it or got a tuned one from ZZP.

I have a 98 Lumina PCM if you wanna go that route. I did Andrie's (xtremerevolution) L67 swap in his 95 Regal. Used a 99 Lumina PCM and harness.

Soooo, in a nutshell, you need a different PCM. The Regal one CANNOT be used.

Also, you do know you will need to have the PCM tuned, or tune it yourself if you have a setup, or you will end up with a check engine light and several codes. (EVAP related, I dont remember anything else popping on. If you didnt install a downstream O2, that will set a code or 2 as well)

All of those are hard codes, so the light will come on and stay on.

:showoff:No wonder I didn't find any security things in my PCM pinouts!

c2 pin 23 shows "NOT USED" in my ALLDATA pinout.

c1 pin 58 also says "NOT USED"...?

in fact...

All these say not used:

c1 pins:

1-3

10-14

18

21

23-27

35

37

40-42

45

49-52

58

66-67

74

77-78

80

and c2 pins:

1

12-15

19-20

23-24

29-32

37-38

40-41

43

47-48

51-54

60

62

64-65

67

69-76

79-80

are all also "NOT USED"

not to be a bigger bother, but are any of those other ones important?

If they hid the important security ones from me, I'm now wondering what else could be missing...?

geeze. I'm glad I asked. I would have been troubleshooting for the next week without that info. THANK YOU!!!

Well geeze... I've checked multiple yards around me, and I never realized just how rare these 98-02GTP PCMs are... :-( Were looking to get it running today. The junk yard guy fisrt tried selling us a 98 Camaro with a 3.8L. (Had a good GTP service number, but that doesn't mean anytyhing when I have no way to enable the L67 tables.) After much confusion on the Junk Yard mans part, we FINALLY got one for a vin 1 engine... From a 99 Bonneville. So once again, my PCM pin-outs show nothing for any security... Which then again, my Pin-outs are worthless for security... We'll try it and see if it works. Hopefully... I still cannot believe a 98-02GTP is so tough to come across...?

What year is the harness from? I believe the only Gen1 W was the regal, and I believe the PCM's were all interior and used different plugs than the 98 GTP, which was an exterior (engine bay) PCM. EDIT: Looks like 96 Regals have the correct connectors, but may need to be re-pinned.

If you can't find a 98 GTP PCM, I might be able to get one for around $65 shipped.
