ancorder Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Like the title says, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what size the vacuum lines are in the 1991 Cutlass Supreme 3.1. I am fairly sure that I have a vacuum leak somewhere, and I've been thinking about replacing lines for a while. This weekend I am going out of town (because I don't have a garage) to replace all these vacuum lines. I'm going to a tiny town that has no auto parts store within 55 miles, so I must have everything with me when I go. What size are the lines? Replacing them with rubber will be okay, right? Are there various diameters or just one standard size? Anyone know approximately what total length I will need? And will I need any connectors/tees or anything? (Would have searched but search function hasn't worked for me in months.) Thanks, everyone. Cheers. Quote
BXX Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 GM still offers the prefabbed lines. They were never that expensive at all. As for the size of them, I dunno, but im sure someone here does. Quote
ancorder Posted November 5, 2010 Author Report Posted November 5, 2010 I guess I could call a dealer and try to special order them. (The one GM dealer I've talked to in the past wants nothing to do with Oldsmobiles, though.) But when I had the brake booster replaced last year I asked the shop how much it would take to replace all the vac lines, and they quoted me about $120 for the lines themselves, plus installation. I've got to think it'd be much cheaper to buy 15 feet of vac line from Autozone or whatever. Quote
AL Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Well there are multiple sizes and bends in each line that generic vacuum hoses just don't work for... If you wanna save money don't have them install the lines and sell you just the part as an hour of labor is around 78 bucks Quote
ancorder Posted November 5, 2010 Author Report Posted November 5, 2010 Right, I wouldn't have the shop put them on. It can't be that complicated. But I still can't justify spending over $100 on the lines themselves. I can't imagine bends being a problem, since I'd be using flexible hose. I could find some way to route things. Surely the multiple diameters aren't on the same lines? Even if so, I could simply use a fitting/coupling that changes from one size to another. There has got to be another option. Surely someone has replaced their vacuum lines with the flexible hose from Napa. Quote
AL Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 You said the $115 was the installed price right? Well if its an hour to install, then they should be about 25 bucks for the lines Quote
ancorder Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 No, that was for the lines themselves. Quote
