My 94 CS was doing the same thing til last night- I changed it out. The front motor mount had separated and the catch bolt at the top was all that was keeping it from getting worse. I found the cheapest mount delivered to my door for $27.99. I took it out of the box and looked at it. It was painted black all over and had a sticker "Made in India". I didn't measure the distance between the two bottom mounting bolts but they were too wide, about 1/4", for the mounting basket. Plus, the ear for the one closest to the radiator side had to be ground down in order to enter the basket. I had to enlarge the mounting holes in the basket a small amount.

I got the OEM style with the rubber insulator. I did not want the solid style cause I don't want any unnecessary vibration coming through. I have never seen poly's. The transmission mount was still in good shape so I kept it as is.

I think I would advise changing it- don't wait if it's banging. The flailing around can't be good for the trans. I think my serp belt got cut during this flailing somehow. The job was a couple of hours and that includes jacking, stands, tire removal, inner fender panel removal, jacking up the motor, massaging the cheap piece of xxxx to fit, and cleaning all the old deteriorated crud from the mounting adapter plate and surrounding area. If you don't want to go through what I did with a cheap part- stay away from "Anchor". Lesson learned.

The danger of putting off motor mount replacements is the short odds. Once in every 382 times, accelerating a loose motor (which is what a failed motor mount means) will pull, twist, or smash a cable which can kill the brakes and/or give full throttle. If you are a gambler, put a donor card in your wallet and drive on. If you know you will have it fixed someday, make that day now and know you will return to the W-forum.

I replaced the motor mount on my 95 GP. Used a solid rubber one. It took me some time to fit it; I was needed to round the front ear of the mount and enlarge one of the mounting holes in the basket, like DavidHowell3633 did.

I would replace both if you can and while you've got your hands dirty. If one is bad, the other isn't far behind. I'd do it as soon as practical and try not to drive your vert if you have a backup.

I inspected the rear mount and debated replacing it. It was dry and seemed fine. Unlike the front motor mount that had, in the distant past, leaked oil from the crank seal and deteriorated the front motor mount, I decided to leave the rear in place. If it ain't broke... etc.
