carkhz316
So in the time that I've tooled around in Monte Carlo (98) since the top swap, I've noticed that it groans and sorta pops a bit when I have to give it a little gas backing up (such as up an incline or turning around, etc.) If it can back up with no resistance (i.e., not giving it any gas) it doesn't do it, though I can hold the brake and try, then it does. Also, took it for a spin and took off in manual 1st, leaving it there through a little rip of the throttle; but when I let off and let it coast and engine brake, it did the same groaning/ popping as in reverse under a load. What is happening? It only started doing this in the time it has sit in the garage for the last few months leading up to and completing the top-swap. Only thing I can think of is stressing the trans/ engine mounts by ratching the engine forward for the rear exhaust manifold and spark plug work. What do you all think? Oh, it's not any engine or trans noise, because I can feel it in the steering wheel (a little bit) and in the unibody overall.
white4d96
Sounds like a loose/damaged mount maybe?
mra32
I was going to say lower engine/trans mount. I gotta replace mine one of these days
carkhz316
They all that bad to do? Haven't done one on a car in forever, which I don't think I've ever done one in this car before.

carkhz316
Bump. It almost feels like rusty brakes that are popping loose. ONLY does this in reverse though, and ONLY when it has some sort of resistance while in reverse
mra32
if its mounts, it would probably happen again if you shifted into first after it made the popping noise in reverse and floored it
