Hello, love this site! Just bought my first vert not long ago! My mechanic said I was stupid but I love my 94 olds vert. There are stupid problems with it like missing the hazard button( need one for inspection). The last thing is steam comes up the firewall about every 5th time i drive it. Looking around the engine bay its hard to see but I can see where there is a line leaking. It is on the tranny side under the coolant hose. Very wierd fitting and about a 5/8 hose coming off it. Any idea what this line goes to? What is this hose called? Is there any thing else back there that leaks? Any help would be great!

Thanks, Steve

I'm assuming the hose heads straight out from the block, then bends upward next to the master cylinder, right? The fitting on the block is rather long, with a plastic retainer in the end?

could be leaking at the heater core connections on the firewall

Yes that is what it is the heater hose. looks like someone fixed the line up top and left the one below it. looks like the only way to get to it is remove the intake . or is there a better way? also i was thinking about replaqcing all the metal pipe with heater hose anyone done this? thanks for your help! It was where the pipe coming off the egr to exhaust rubbed the metal crimp fitting

I just went to the parts store and bought a new fitting when I fixed mine...the previous owner had "repaired" it with something like JB Weld, and it was leaking. I think it cost 4 or 5 dollars for the part.

I was doing intake gaskets at the time, so mine got replaced while things were apart. Not sure about doing it with the intake still on the car...

Good luck! That fitting is a bitch. Most of the threads get messed up on the aluminum lower intake, which makes the replacement fitting not seal completely, leading to a slow leak. Mine leaked after putting in a new heater hose connector. I found out after rebuilding the whole upper-end of the engine and had to improvise to correct the problem.

Thanks all got the heater hose replace and do not want to do that again any time soon! Started out just doing the lines coming off heater core and ended up replacing everything.
