RobertISaar Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 LQ1 has a WHOLE lot of lifters.... i have a hard time believing it's coincidence though... Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 what you think i sucked up water? Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 well is it possible for a engine to sound like that if its not firing right? but then again is running to smooth to be on 5 cylinders Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 a guy on gmfourm suggested x over that is where it is loudest Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 it's possible... not sure how it could have gotten into the oil that quickly though, especially since it didn't flat out die on you somewhere... and the crossover is possible, especially if it got wet while hot, that tends to distort them, potentially enough to make a gasket leak.... Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 yeah and i dont think i have water in the oil as it is still brownish and slick oh it got wet it has waterspots all over it Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 hmm, that may explain it then. from the looks of it, i'm not even sure if a gasket is used between the logs and the crossover... Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 yeah im gonna look it over tommorow when i have a day off as i have already planned rides out for the day:lol: Quote
94 olds vert Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Sounds like a lifter tick to me. Get it up to operating temp and see if it goes away. Quote
Galaxie500XL Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 I'm still thinking arcing...since you've got a garage, wait till dark, make sure the garage is very dark, with your eyes adjusted, and start it up. Cheap and easy way to look for arcs...and it can't hurt anything. Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 well i can do that now it will get very dark in there Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 im thinking if it is arcing tommorow i will pull all the plug wires put dielectric grease on them, reconect and see what happens as i did forget that step when doing my plugs Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 not only does it seal out moisture, and seal in the spark, it makes wire removal easier and less likely to rip a terminal off of the wires. wonderful stuff. Quote
jake91 Posted October 7, 2010 Author Report Posted October 7, 2010 i was reading this http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/qt/plugwire_chk.htm and saw the part about unburned gas going in the exhaust if you have arching, and right now my car freaking reaks of gas from the exhaust (i forgot to mention that part) so yeah going to get that grease tonight and work on it in the morning Quote
jake91 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Report Posted October 8, 2010 okay well i started my car again and now it sounds like is on 5 cylenders so im sure its spark knock we shall see in the morning Quote
jake91 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Report Posted October 8, 2010 tick is mostly gone dielectric grease quieted it and then after a drive it was gone compleatly, but now it is still running like shit i ran it up to 4500rpm and it hardly got to 30 felt like it had a 3100. and i have a whine from the pass side. im thinking the whine was from the belt area as i had less ps assist Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 if one of the cylinders had no spark, the plug is likely fouled... pull them until you see one that's black as night, and that was likely the one that was misfiring. hell, it's a LQ1, pull all of them and clean them up with a brass brush or brake cleaner.
