Night Fury Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 That price also includes sandpaper(which I'll have plenty left over), a can trigger(also may use again for asst projects eventually), and 1000 sqft of plastic dropcloth which I will FOR SURE use in the future, I only used about 200sqft. Addicted to eaton Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 I might have to come see this! Quote
GP1138 Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 I'm really interested to see the end result Lord Buckingdale. I admire your dedication! Quote
white4d96 Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Hm, seems a lot lighter than I remember. Mine was a darker metallic blue IIRC. Looks good though! Quote
Breakdown Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Buck, Â Â I swear . . . if you do this right and make your car look all pro. Â It will be the biggest single accomplishment for the betterment of all of our lives (everyone not just the W-body community) by a gay person . . . . ever. Â . . . . no pressure though. Do your best. Â So far, so good!! Quote
Breakdown Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 It's been nearly a week where in the FFFUUU have the updates been for this project?? Â I want pics!!! I'm very excited about seeing this. Quote
Night Fury Posted October 18, 2010 Author Report Posted October 18, 2010 It's 'done'. I'm not super satisfied with the results, I would've had to get like 10 more cans of blue to make it not splotchy. Very hard to blend. Regardless, I got clear on it, and after a buffing it should look pretty darn decent. I'll buff tomorrow. I do have a few pics as it sits now, I'll post them in a half hour or so. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Well, I can't say it looks good, but at least it's all one color, more or less. Quote
white4d96 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I actually kinda like the effect. The color did darken up like I remembered it as well. Now if only I could paint mine that colour... Quote
Night Fury Posted October 18, 2010 Author Report Posted October 18, 2010 Expect to buy 10,874 cans! Quote
94 olds vert Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 uhh...You should of took it to macco, but hey you live and learn. Â That being said I like the colour it. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Can you buy Rustoleum by the gallon? I've read on other forums that people have good results using this thing: http://www.harborfreight.com/high-volume-low-pressure-spray-gun-kit-44677.html  I've read the secret is to use more reducer than the paint calls for, because for some reason these turbine type HVLP setups need more reducer than air compressor+HVLP gun. Quote
slick Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Looks about like I expected. Â Looks like you started and stopped spraying while on top of the panel. Key to no blotches and dark spots it to have continuous, even spray the whole length. Start and stop before you even touch the panel and after you've passed the panel. Yes, you waste paint. But looks better. Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 ^^even with HVLP guns, that's the way to do it. Quote
AL Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Its doesn't look bad by any means but I'm looking at it on a cell phone... Quote
j_mezz Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Metalics are tough to work with, solids you can just keep laying it on till it's uniform. Did you wind up using 7 cans of clear too? When I did my door I wanted to make sure I had enough on there that I could compound it down a little later on so I did 4 color + 4 clear. Quote
Breakdown Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I just noticed something. Â Is that the actual colour of those rims, they look spray-bombed. Â Plus, they shouldn't be that colour, on that car. Quote
GP1138 Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I love it and wish it was cleared and smooth at the same time. The gold has to stay!!! Quote
RobertISaar Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 that wheel + this paint color combo is teh secks. Quote
AL Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Those wheels were that color when I got them... I did nothing with them Quote
