94vertluvr Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I have 2 94 olds verts; one i put all new struts on the other i have not. Both of them have a sound that is coming from around the rear wheel areas, to me it sounds like a rubber bushing that is bad...but when the cars sway a little from left to right or go over a very mild bump at slow speeds you hear this rubbing sound kind of sounds like it may be coming from both sides of the car when swaying in either direction. Could this be some kind of body bushing that has gone bad...it is an irritating sound and as I said i replaced all the struts on the one and it has the sound too. Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks! Quote
white4d96 Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Check and see if you are missing one or both leaf isolator pads? I think I had the issue you describe and that was it (as you compressed the suspension it would creak almost, because the spring itself was rubbing against the spindle instead of the isolator) Quote
94 olds vert Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Yes I think you are missing one or both of you leaf isolator pads. If you are I'd recommend you replacing them with these. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Transverse-Spring-Isolator-Pad-Moog_20516725-P_2053_R%7CGRPCHASAMS_714762457___ I have them in my cutlass and they are worth the money. And will last much much longer than the factory pads. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 x2, but rock auto has them cheaper. I installed two sets of these at the last meet for other people... Quote
94vertluvr Posted October 1, 2010 Author Report Posted October 1, 2010 WOW! Yea! That's what it sounds like a creak! If that's what you all had I'm sure that's my problem too! Does anyone know if these are hard to install and how many I would need for the car? I'm assuming I'd need them on both sides? Thanks! Quote
94 olds vert Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) You will need two of them. (Two come in one box). Very easy to install. I've done it on two w-body cars. EASIEST:Raise the car and put it on jackstands. - this reduces the weight sitting on the spring, so when you raise the spring you are fighting mostly the spring and not the weight of the car. Use a hydraulic jack with a block of wood on top to push up on the spring near the end. You may need to use a crowbar or big screwdriver to shift the spring away from the edge of the knuckle;e if it is binding. *NEVAR PLACE FINGERS BETWEEN SPRING AND KNUCKLE* take the puck and insert it into the knuckle, get it to pop in place. Sometimes filing down the edges lightly can help it go in easier. once installed... lower jack and lower car, and you are done. Edited October 1, 2010 by 94 olds vert Quote
