Galaxie500XL
I've been noticing for the past few days that my top doesn't look quite right behind the rear quarter window on the driver's side...a bit more metal than usual is showing, and it looks as if the top edge is "rolling" a bit around toward the back of the window as it makes it's way downward toward the body of the car. Could this be an issue with the top cable losing tension, since it's the side cables that help the top maintain it's shape on the edges when the top is up? Galaxie500XL
Well, did a bit of checking, and learned a couple of things...the Cutlass has FOUR tension cables, a pair for the front of the roof, and a pair for the quarter/sail panel. The cable for the sail panel definitely has a problem, I can see it's outline in the outside of the top material, it is obviously either detached at one end or broken... Anyone have an idea of where to find one, and how big a deal this would be to replace?
MemphisMan
I found a .pdf online of the service manual for the 1995 Convertible tops. It talks about the tension cables and how to change them. I could send it to you if you don't already have it. I'm new to the forum...is there a reference section where I could post it for anyone who wants it?
94 olds vert
You could make a thread in the cutlass convertible section. That way any convertible owners down the line can search the forum and find that information.
MemphisMan
I could start a thread and just upload the .pdf?
94 olds vert
yes.
MemphisMan
I tried uploading the file, but the max size a .pdf can be on this forum is 195.3 kb. The file is I have is 845.6 kb. I'll see if I can compress it, but I don't think I'll be able to compress it that much. I wish I could find the site I got it from and I could just post the link, but I don't remember it. Galaxie500XL
I think I may have found the same PDF...it is 52 pages long....does that sound like the one you found?
MemphisMan
The one I have is 28 pages, but it could be pages from the one you've got. Here is a pic of the cover page taken with my iphone. Does this match the one you've got?
Galaxie500XL
Memphis Man; Yep, that's the one I found, too. Thanks!
MemphisMan
Maybe if you get a chance you could post the link to where you found it? It seems I might have an incomplete copy since yours has so many more pages. I'd like to get the same copy you have if you wouldn't mind posting it. Thanks a bunch! Galaxie500XL
Here's the link: http://www.polar.icestorm.com/sfl/cutlass/convertible_top_info.pdf Turns out it is the same place mentioned in the Convertible Interchange sticky.
