Psych0matt
the best way I found to do them was to take of the front dogbone, take of the rubber stripping that runs along the rear of the engine at the hood, and use a U joint on the end of the socket. Either that or remove engine!
intern8tion9l
i always remove the dogbones and use a ratchet srap or something similar to go from the engine lift hook to the radiator support and just crank it forward. that gives enough room and i've never removed any rubber stripping not on a vert, but the engine compartments are all the same, no? Galaxie500XL
Pretty sure you CAN'T rotate the 3.4, the motor mounts are different. Best bet is to remove the strut brace, and the rubber seal at the back of the hood. It's possible to just barely fit an extension between the firewall lip and plenum to get to the plugs this way. Not easy, but possible.
daszanto
There are 2 write-ups in the FAQ section on ways to rotate the engine. Whatever method you use is up to you, but make sure you put the transmission in neutral first. I found the links for ya.... http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/20840-Engine-Rotation-3.1-and-3100-utilizing-a-rachet-strap http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/20891-Engine-Rotation-Version-

Psych0matt
What Ken said. I forgot about the STB, but yeah, it's just enough room with a couple extensions. It's a pain, but not that incredibly hard
intern8tion9l
he said 3.1, that's what i was responding to. def don't know anything about the 3.
Psych0matt
same rules apply, 3.4s are just a bit harder
Galaxie500XL
Sorry about that, my dyslexia kicked in, and I put the "4" from "94" in the wrong place, and thought it was about the 3.4.
mra32
the simplest way ive found is to leave the car in park, unbolt dogbones, and push one of the front tires forward and chock it up in the back. even easier if you are parked on a slight downhill. Ive never removed the rubber stripping, but thats a good idea. I'll have to try that next time, which is hopefully a long ways away. I was able to stick my arm under the alternator between the engine and firewall. That arm remained there for the duration of the job and i handed spark plugs and tools (spark plug socket with a u-joint is awesome) to my pinned hand with my free hand. It was somewhat comfortable. Highmilagecutlass
Some dog bones have hole casted in them that allow you to tilt the engine forward with a ratchet strap enough to get the dog bone mounting bolt thru the extra hole casted in it to secure the engine while you are working the the dash side plugs. I hope this helps, Not all dog bones have this extra hole.
dodgethis
Are we talking about the 3.1, or the 3100?
