alec_b
Just when I was starting to get ahead of things on this damn car, last night I went out for drinks with a friend and when I dropped her off I heard a distinct "rattle rattle rattle" from the passenger side. I knew right away what it was, the GD balancer let go. Question is, how long can I let it go? I drive... well a lot. I can order the part but I'm just not gonna have time to mess with it for at LEAST a week, maybe longer. Is there any big deal to driving it with the balancer rattling away? It only happens at idle anyways and most of my driving is highway. Thanks!
reddroptop
Keep driving it if you want a broken crankshaft or other consequential damage when it lets go. Seriously I'd suggest parking it.
alec_b
I doubt it's going to let go... they're designed as a fail safe part which is why they still work when the rubber lets go. Now, I'm not saying I'm going to drive it for the next 6 months like this, but it will be a week or so.
White93z34
I'd probably replace that asap. If it lets go you loose crank sensor signal and the car dies immediately.
