J
My buddy wants to buy this car-http://www.youngautosales.com/used-inventory/2G2WP552161187280 I drove it and it's nice, it is a Canadian car (weird that is was imported here?) I thought it might be since it had a block heater and sure enough it was in ONtario it's whole life. I drove the car and all is well like i said, but it doesn't have ABS and he will be doing a lot of winter highway driving and he won't listen to me about the ABS. How can i convince him to skip it and get a car with ABS?
jeremy
....you should convince him to pass on it simply because that is an awful lot of money for a base GP.....
J
agreed! I tired to find others in the area, but came up with nada. Links to any others?
White93z34
So long as you know how to drive ABS is not all that necessary. Hell half the time in the winter I wish my car had a OFF button for ABS. That said I would have a hard time stomaching $12,400 for that. Keep looking around. Addicted to eaton
Buck is right. 04,05's were GTP's 2006 and 2007 GT's were supercharged. With no gtp name plate. 2008 Had no GT package. base or gxp only.

jman093
Show him this. It doesn't really start until 4minutes I think a lot of us here have bad opinions about ABS because most of us have or have had the Delco ABS-VI. It sucks horribly. Especially in the snow. It seems to work on the principle that keeping the brakes the brakes from applying also keep them from locking! Not all that long ago I use to hate ABS too because of my driving first gen w's, but have since learned better. The ABS/TC/ESP system in that car in the video in the exact same system in a 98-08 Grand Prix. It's the Bosch 5.3 system used by dozens of automakers over the last 15 years and is still being used. Getting a 98+ GP without it in a cold climate is dumb. There's simply no way a "good driver" can outperform a good modern ABS. A "good driver" keeps the wheels from locking by either pumping the brakes or riding the threshold of traction. This keeps all four wheels below the locking point of the wheel with the lowest traction, essentially a "four wheel, one-channel" ABS system. Real ABS can modulate each wheel individually. No way for a driver to apply less braking to one particular wheel to keep a car straight and stop quicker. Look at the video around 8:54 seconds and what the system was doing to the wheels with the car barreling through snow at 70mph. That feat couldn't be done without it. Just because ABS is annoying doesn't mean it's ineffective. It's also not a compensator for stupidity or lack of prudent driving. It works in synergy with that. I don't understand this arrogance about ABS and Traction Control. I agree it'd be nice if they had "OFF" buttons, which TC often does, but more often than not they're smarter than you are and can control more than you can. J
thanks fellas. I think it has to be one of the most arrogant things someone can say, when they say they can drive better without ABS. Do i wish it had an off button NO why the fuck would i want it off? Traction control is nice to turn off to mess around in the snow, but it has saved my ass in my truck numerous times and i'm what i consider a great driver. Jay, I'll start by saying that I'll never buy another non-equipped ABS car. However, studies have shown, that especially for those whom have grown up without ABS, that when driving in wet conditions (not icy) that ABS equipped cars are actually less safe. Much of that can be attributed to non-ABS habits and driver error, etc, but that is where I could see some people legitimately wanting an off button.
