electrical question

Could a short in the electrical system ( alternator to battery cable ) cause a surge at idle? Today I found that cable just burnt to a crisp, and cable was showing.

Uhh most definatly, get that replaced before somthing catches on fire and or it fries your electrical system.

I took the cable out, and replaced it. Hopefully it will run a little better for me.
