thatcutteeboy
Hey guys and girls, the Vert died while on the freeway at about 80 miles an hour. It just died and all it does is turn over. I took the timing cover off and the belt is not broken. Can you all please chime in here with some help please ASAP. Thanks family.
spiderw31
Start by checking for spark and fuel. Pull a plug wire off, put a screwdriver in the end of it, and lay the screwdriver down so that it nearly touches the head or the block. See if there is a visible spark when cranking. If you have access to a timing light, hook it up to one of the plug wires and check for spark while cranking (this way is a bit more reliable). Pull a spark plug after cranking and see if it is wet. If so, then you have fuel. Again a more conclusive test would be to disconnect the power connector form an injector, and ohm check the injector to make sure it is good, and hook a test light to the injector harness. Look for it to pulse while cranking. Once you know if it is spark, fuel, or both, then more troubleshooting can begin. Good luck!
IRONDOG442
Your belt probably jumped a few teeth, just cause its not broken doesnt mean its GOOD. Just scrap the fucker and buy a Honda.

94 olds vert
Are you serious? Is that the only alternative? Don't scrap it. Like mentioned check for fuel and spark first and see what you have. Then post what you find and we will be able to help you more.

Crazy K
Does the engine sound normal? 1: have someone else crank the engine and see if the belt actually moves. 2: do a fuel pressure check at the rail. You can remove the cap and surround the valve with a rag and press the valve pintle in, and gas should squirt up if it is good. You can prime the pump by using the red wire near the auxiliary post by the battery. 3: injector test. remove the black cover and pull the injector harness off the 3 injectors you can see. use a multimeter on each injector and see if they are in the 12.0 ohm range. use a node test light, or a blade type bulb with the contacts bent out and stuck in the injector and then crank the engine to see if the light flashes. 4: on the right rear of the engine is that vacuum port that goes into the intake. the rubber line attaches to the fuel regulator. pull it loose and see if it is full of gas. thatcutteeboy
Hey guys this is very serious to me so could you please keep all the bs out of my thread. Thanks
spiderw31
Ken and I did give serious advice. Obviously Rob was joking around, but he's right about the timing belt; it could have slipped. Just 'cause it looks good does not mean it actually is. All are things you should check.
Crazy K
p.s. after the above... it is time to do a compression check.

thatcutteeboy
Hey guys I've got no spark. Timing belt moves when cranking engine. Fuel shoots out of schrader valve. I shot starter fluid into filter box no start. What should I look at next?
94 olds vert
Check your coil pack, and spark plug wires.
Euro
Did you pull the plugs and check as you tried to fire it up? My Lumina died that exact way as you, on the interstate at about 80mph..haha. All it did was crank and crank but no start. I had fuel at the schrader valve, so I went with the no spark idea...but couldn't check because I was the only one in the car. It ended up being the fuel pressure regulator, you might wanna give that a check too
thatcutteeboy
I've got someone coming tomorrow to check it out. We'll see. Hope it's not too bad.

Crazy K
no spark..... most likely: ECM failure? Run a check on the ECM by using the paperclip code check. did that result in anything? You should get the flashing code 12 as a minimum. ICM? and did you check on at least one wire from each coil? the coil packs and ICM are under the front exhaust manifold, but can be removed by pulling all three coil packs with their 5.5mm(7/32 bolts) TIP: used ones from the top of a 3100/3400 are the same and very easy to pull as well as more likely to be in better condition.... if you need to run the PAP.. CRANKSENSOR: rear of block behind the alternator. Those can go bad.... and a fuel regulator check can be done as i described before by inspecting the vacuum line that feeds it, which you should do anyhow, though it doesn't seem to be the issue. IRONDOG442
I am pretty sure he failed regarding performing the spark test. Don't base your diagnosis on what he tells you, there is a reason he is asking for someone near him to come help him perform there otherwise simple diagnostic tests. By the way ThatCuteeBoy I am not trying to offend you I am just basing my opinion on observations of things you have posted here and other threads. I think based on what happened to him on the road his timing belt slipped JUST LIKE I SAID BACK in the third post!! Yet he said I was not being serious !! Someone capable of timing a LQ1 needs to pay him a visit, lord knows if I had time right now with him only being 100 miles away I'd gladly help him but I cant for a while.
