M U Tiger
Our 1994 Cutlass Supreme has the 3.4L V6 engine with auto transaxle. There is some evidence of stop leak (GM Pellets?) in the coolant. I would like to flush and refill the cooling system with new antifreeze. I've read all sorts of bad things about Dexcool, even lawsuits against GM over it. What is the most commonly recommended antifreeze for the 3.4L engine? I have several unopened gallons of both undiluted Prestone Long Life antifreeze and 50/50 Prestone antifreeze. Both supposedly are compatible with "any color antifreeze." What about opinions regarding the GM collant pellets? Thanks, Jim
tornado_735
Stick with the green stuff. There are advantages to Dex-Cool, I they do not outweigh the potential consequences IMHO. As for those pellets, flush the hell out of that cooling system before you do anything.

BXX
Use what it came with x2 There is NOTHING wrong Dexcool, so long as its maintained properly..
RobertISaar
this is true. which is why the recommended 5 year/100K miles(that is what it still is, right?) should be taken as an absolute maximum number.
BXX
Yes, when in doubt, do an electrolyte and acid test on it. Im pretty sure you can buy coolant test strips just aboott anywhere these days.
