GPdriver1986
Can someone give me detailled instructions on how to replace the rear rocker cover gasket ?
cutsup1996
i had to do it when i replaced my lower intake manifold gasket, the only thing i can say is what i did, just take everything off you need to to take off to get to the valve cover and either write down, make sticky tabs, or simply remember where the stuff goes back, not easy to do and takes a while, hard thing is the coil packs, i think you can bend that bracket back, frustrating and time consuming, question is are u confident to do it by yourself or with a buddy, if not unfortunately shell out the dough to have someone do it
GPdriver1986
I want to do the rear rocker cover gasket not the front one ( the coil packs are in the front so it doesn't matter)

Robby1870
Can someone give me detailled instructions on how to replace the rear rocker cover gasket ? Im writing this so that you have to take the plenum off. I dont know if you have to, but it makes it much much easier Alright, Take the airbox stuff off Rotate the motor forward Disconnect the two sensors on the TB. Undo the throttle linkage Take the rubber vacuum line plug out. Undo the the TB coolant lines Unscrew the two TB bolts Remove EGR connector Undo the CTS connector (the one on the rear head) Take the brake booster line off the plenum Take the MAP and Charcoal Canister Purge Solenoid off the of the back of the plenum Take the tranny vacuum line off the plenum Take the plenum off Take the PCV tube off the bottom of the plenum Unscrew the 4 bolts on the rear valve cover and take it off. This is a good time to change the O2 if you havent yet. HTH Robby
cutsup1996
unless engine bay is tighter than my cutty, which doubt, the motor does not need to be rotated forward, i know i did it without doing that, its just getting all that crap off and putting it back
GPdriver1986
is it possible to do it without removing the plenum? and if I remove the plenum do I have to replace the gaskets?
Robby1870
is it possible to do it without removing the plenum? and if I remove the plenum do I have to replace the gaskets? I honestly dont konw. Im assuming it would be. Follow the above and leave out the removing the plenum part. Just take everything off the plenum. If you do take the plenum off, I recommend you change the gaskets. But if you have the metal ones, you may not have to. I highly recommmend rotating the motor forward. The 3.1L lower intake and plenum extend farther back above the rear valve cover than the 3100 (or atleast it seems that way). Rotating the motor forward will save some major time and busted knuckles. Also, I forgot it in the above, you need to remove the alternator and move its mouting bracket ouf of the way
GPdriver1986
Yeah i'm gonna tilt the engine no doubt about that. I was also thinking of removing the alternator, to make more room for hands and tools.
