Highmilagecutlass
After considering everyone advice here I will be installing Dex VI. Should I just do a pan drop this time and in the next 30,000 mile do a complete change to Dex VI ? Right now I have over 100,000 on an unknown fluid , it could be dex III or DexVI . Also I am condsidering putting a small magnet in my trans pan while I have it off. Any input is appreciated !! Thanks In advance:thumbsup:
birdman
should already be a magnet there. and id just do the spill and fill, its not the best but plenty good for these cars.
RobertISaar
magnet is a good idea. you're supposed to keep it in a specific area of the pan though.
tornado_735
Yea there should already be a magnet in the pan. There was one in both of the 60's I've dropped the pans on.

Crazy K
One single car I've worked on was missing it's magnet, but you could see the marks that is used to be there. On any tranny I service I add a Neodymium rare earth in addition to the original magnet. I recall having serviced only one of these trannys a second time, and the neodymium magnet had much more metal on it than the little square magnet.... Highmilagecutlass
**UPDATE** I dropped the pan on the 26th and there was a magnet, some kind of a thin really strong magnet. There was some gray film on it but nothing to worry about, I installed a WIX trans filter only to be disappointed that is was made in Taiwan. I installed 7 quarts of Dex VI that I bought at Walmart..yes the Supertech stuff . After reading the bottle that the fluid was made in the U.S.A and met G.M. standards I WAS SOLD AT 3.77 a quart. My trans shifts so much crisper and I dont have to give it as much pedal to engage the passing gear. So I'm happy with the trans fluid and disappointed with the filter, but I found a company that makes a trans filter in the U.S.A, it's FILTRAN. The next pan drop I will use one of those, and 7 more quarts of SuperTech in the spring. Thanks to everyone here that offered advice and steered me in the direction right and helped get me on track !
