My car have problem with rear brake light. On driver side brake light wont come on, but on top/middle n passneger brake light will come on when I hit brake pedal. I hope signal switch is the answer to this problem! If anybody know what else I should to check, lmk pls. Thanks

TURN SIGNAL = NOT PROBLEM.

On first GEN GPs, the turn signals are independent of the braking circuits. This is NOT true on all other W vehicles.

A single light blue wire feeds positive power to all rear brake lights, but each should have a separate ground. If you have a multimeter you can check for continuity to ground (black)at each of the sockets, as well as verify if there is power when the brake pedal is applied.

To answer the original question, to remove the button pad, get a screw driver behind the entire control unit (say on the bottom or top of the wheel) and pry it out. They all come out as one piece.

Really??

It's the very same part - isn't it?

I dont know much about this elec system n words too...

What is socket? where blub put in?

I doubt ground is bad. Since I saw only 1 ground wire go in socket. Other 2 wires go in. Total is 3 wires. Other 2 wires, one is for parking light. Other wire go in for brake light. If parking light works, that mean ground is okay? So brake wire is bad? Pls tell me what else to check or if u need more info, please ask!

Strange, Left n right brake light have different color on wires. I thought brake should have same 1 color wires for both sides brake? Pls let me know asap.

I forget to add one more thing. I did took out brake line in trunk. And put on other STE, all brake (both sides) light came on. That mean sockets is fine. Must be bad from harness from dashbard to trunk? Isnt there any other relay or fuse or something can cause that?

If you bought that switch at Autistic zone, RETURN IT. IT IS GARBAGE.

that is some good info right there. The rear harness is good, so it MUST be in the body harness of the car. This means the STE uses a more complex wiring set up than I would thought.

CLARIFICATION REQUEST: Does this car have a DIC? (probably?)

If so... are you observing the lights on the outside of the car to see they do not work, or is the DIC telling you that there is an issue?

I bought from O'Reilly. Hope it's good part. Also lifetime warranty.

Yeah, I was thinking about inside body harness is bad.

Any STE come with DIC as standard. So yeah it have DIC. DIC info do came on "rear brake light" isnt working. That's how I found out that I have rear left brake isnt working. Even front low beam headlight isnt working show on DIC, but I will focus on this later.. after I am done with rear left light brake issue.

Here's WEIRD what I found out... It is hard for me to explain but here it is...Since I already knew that ground wire n parking light wires is still good. I want to know if harness inside car is good or not. I have been looking for same wire color from rear left brake to under dashboard. And I THINK I found that wires plugged in black (dunno what black box is for) box behind the DIC under dashboard. Then I test for OHM by my multimeter digital tool. It is weird, same color, it show nothing on rear left brake wire. But if I do black(ground) to black, multimeter will show ZERO which mean it is good wires, then I test on black (ground) to left rear brake, multimeter will show ZERO!! WHY?? even park light show ZERO and on metal ground too. I though those wires suppose to be seprate? I am so confused now. I hope somebody can asnwer to this.

I did leave this comment in General forum too with info of color code for harness.

Ohh one more thing.. When I am confused that multimeter show zero for OHM, same time I am wonder do that mean rear left brake light wire is good since it show zero? Must be black box is bad?
