Is the Comp G package worth it?

OK, so I've pretty much set my heart on a last gen GP GTP. I test drove an 04 with the Comp G package and was very impressed. BUT, Comp Gs are very hard to find, or so it seems, and the example I drove sold the next day. :(

Anyway, I haven't driven a GTP w/out this package, but for those that own one or know them well, does the Comp G package sharpen the handling enough to make it a deal breaker?

I plan on driving a regular GTP to see for myself, but I'd like some other input...and no threadjacking this time, mmmkay?

If anyone knows, it's me. I've OWNED both a regular GTP and a Comp G. As you know.

Comp G TRUMPS GTP.

If the ONLY difference was the gearing, it would STILL be worth it, but it's not. It feels like a whole different car. Handles better, is much more reactive on the highway, HUD, Tap-shift, stabalitrac, ETC ETC ETC ETC

The answer is YES, it IS VERY worth it.

Also, keep in mind, there were some differences between 04-05. 05 got remote start and ECC, maybe a couple of other goodies I'm forgetting. Try for an 05, I wish I had an 05 Comp G.

05's are rarer though.

Buck: From what I can tell, the Comp Gs seem to come with one of two rim and grille styles:

The wheels either look like yours, or they're chromed with a few less spokes

The grilles are either black mesh, or a bright metal mesh.

Which one of these was considered "standard"?

The wheels mine come with were 'standard', the two other styles (the chrome twisty 5-spokes, and the straight 10 spokes my 05 had) were considered 'upgrades'

Grilles, black was standard, I believe all others were dealer or aftermarket installed. I think....

Comp Gs even get better MPG on teh hwy!

Really? What did the non Comp-G's get for gearing?

The grilles on every 04+ are black. The chrome ones are the Pontiac SPO accessory grilles.

CompGs are definitely worth holding out for over a standard GTP, I would definitely hold out for an '05 though too. ......also not sure how Buck claims they get better MPG then the standard GTP because they shouldn't as they have more aggressive gearing

Here was an almost identical thread I made a couple of years ago, when I had my eye on an '05. There is a very good reply I received early on in the thread. I actually went as far as getting certified funds from my bank to buy it then the dealer wanted to hold the car for a couple days before releasing it to me...along with some other bullshit. There is still even a pic of the '05 Comp G i was going to get..........oh yeah, the wheels on the '05 in the thread I linked to are by far the best wheels you could get on a Comp G, imho of course.

.....all this being said when I look back at it I am really glad things worked out the way that they did with this Comp G with me not ending up with it, as I really do think the GXP is that much a step up even from the Comp G.

Good luck with your search

Thanks, Jeremy!

I'd love a GXP as well, I just don't think I'll find one in my budget that doesn't already have a ton of mile on it. :(
