Mach 5
ok well I cant seem to get the search to work all that well so here is my question: On the Getrag 284 the clutch bolts are M8 x 1.25 right? also the shoulder of the bolt is what locates the pressure plate on these clutches? well my problem is I snapped a bolt loosening the plate so now I only have 5 bolts and I was looking for a matching replacement well with no luck I found a pic of ARP SOHC Honda bolts that should work on the pic had a shoulder on the bolts... well the package arrived today and guess what the bolts dont have a shoulder so do I use them or not? ARP- 108-2201 thanks -Jarek
jtwmechanic
post a pic of both for comparison, in the meantime you should be able to get those from a dealership.
White93z34
I don't believe the bolts holding my clutch together are shouldered. IIRC they are not and have split lock washers on them.
Crazy K
pics? iirc the bolts on this are not shouldered and have a washer, too.
Mach 5
here you go: left is ARP bolt I found last night that the ARP bolt is slightly larger than the stock bolt so it actually might work but Im still concerned with the shoulder being a problem. Im also worried with the stock bolts since one broke when I was loosening them so Im afraid that under load it could be a problem as this new motor should be putting out somewhere in the 400lb/ft torque range. Crazy K
Oh! I see what you are referring to. Answer us this: when you take the shouldered bolt to the hole in the pressure plate it is tight or loose? if in total doubt on the situation, I recommend two new bolts 180 degrees apart, and the rest being re-used bolts. That way if the shoulder of the old bolts does the job of centering the pressure plate, 4 can still do that job, and the new bolts will be balanced by being across from each other while supplying needed clamping force. and just to be sure, the slightly longer bolts aren't going to contact the engine, right??? Mach 5
It actually seems like the ARP bolts have a tighter fit I might just use those I just hope its not an issue later on down the road. Im very anal about these kind of things.
jtwmechanic
the arp bolt will work fine, as long as they do not protrude past the flywheel when tight. make sure they are either lock washered or use lock tight and i am sure you have an alignment tool to realign the clutch disc to center when you tighten it back down.
