Ryan from Ohio
Hi Guys, Seriously considering a 95 cutlass vert. Besides needing a new top- what are common issues or things to look for on a car like this? My Alero may be sold today and I may be driving 2+ hours away to look at this vert. Not sure what motor is in it. I have owned the 3400 DOHC (dont care for), 2.8, 3.1, 3100 and 3400 and now a 3800 (Riviera). So I know my way around the engines OK except the 3400 DOHC (was a young pup then). Thanks for the info!
Crazy K
vert issues: leaks holes in floor under rear seat from leaking structural rust bad rear window motors. bad top bad top cables bad rear window If it has a 3.4, you NEED to inspect the belt. on the passanger front corner, there is a black inspection cover. two 8mm bolts remove it (91-93 have a second cover that comes off first, also 2 more 8mm) and check the belt for uneven wear and damage. the belt can be slightly off center, but it should not be off the edge pully. With a flashlight you should be able to see the teeth and make sure no dryrot is occurring. look for oil leaks... and you will definitely find some.... Galaxie500XL
+1,000,000 on the leaks. My '95 convertible literally had 6 inches of water in the spare tire well when I first bought it. But for sheer fun, a LQ1 Cutlass runs rings around my old LeBaron convertible. Well worth the trouble.
