J
hey i didn't mean to piss ya off, i have a 3.1, and i am, broke as hell and it still prob does 17's in the quarter!
john99gtp
you didnt piss me off. Im just saying maybe some of us like our 3.1 my 3.1 does 17.4 best so far. Hopefully my chip comes in, im going back on the 8th. going to see if it makes a big difference. L67 is the most expensive option, but u can make the 3.1 pretty decent if you work on it right. Guest TurboSedan
what can i do to help my car get up and go?need more hp turbo and/or 5-speed! i'd start with the 5-speed myself. it won't give you more HP but the gearing will get you off the line a helluva lot quicker, and besides manuals are more fun to drive (for most) and it'll lighten your car up some. next turbocharge it. that's what i'm doing anyway.....the 5-speed made one helluva difference in acceleration. i don't exactly have my TGP engine in the car yet....it's still waiting on my brother's garage floor..... joshua

Guest TurboSedan
i pay about $42/month for liability. should be lower IMO. i've only had one ticket EVER and i'm 26. :? joshua
L67wanaB
Is THAT IT ???? i would pay 340/month if i was the primary driver my lumina... Kids... I swear  I'm 30 (recently) with a wife and two kids. Three vehicles and I pay 320 every six months for liability on all three. I'm going to ugrading the coverage on my Lumina to "Full" before my next payment is due. That'll take my payments up to 375 every 6 months. If I pick up the second W-body I'm probably looking at something below 450. For speed: Not much you can do in the way of bolt on applications. Modified intakes, throttle body, exhause manifold/headers, chip, pulleys, cia. Tune the suspension and that's pretty much it. You could delve into more costly proceedures: Shave and extrude hone the heads, engine rebuild with a 30 over bore and higher compression, cam and so forth. Turbo or super charge. Personally I would go turbo 3.1, there isn't a good SC kit out there to my knowledge. I am really kicking around the idea of building up a twin turbo charged 3.1 with the possibility of AWD from a Pontiac 6000 STE. Maybe see if there's a viable way to put together an auto-stick application. I can tell you from personal experience, an L67 swap is less costly than doing heavy mods for speed on a 3.1. Guest TurboSedan
I can tell you from personal experience, an L67 swap is less costly than doing heavy mods for speed on a 3.1. if you're just doing an engine swap the LG5 (TGP engine) will cost WAY less than an L67 swap. an L76 will spank a TGP (usually because it's a newer car racing an older one w/problems). i picked up my 111,xxx mile turbo 3.1 LG5 TGP engine for $350 and that included the radiator, intercooler, wiring harness, everything but the turbocharger & accesories. i have 2 TGP turbo's anyway right now (hmmm twin turbo...). before i got my TGP engine i bought *almost* everything to turbo my n/a 3.1 and that cost me around $800 or so (!). i've now sold all the extra stuff and got most of my money back tho. then i got my 5-speed for $160 and it bolts right on the 60' V6. the Buick L67 is expensive and harder to stick a 5-speed on (custom flywheel). what does a complete L67 go for on ebay anyway? i'm guessing around $1200?? heavy mods (as opposed to a simple engine swap) is a different story. there is probably more of an aftermarket for the L67 to go Really Fast, whereas if i want to upgrade the turbo on my LG5 i'm kinda screwed and have to do a bunch of custom work. i'm just saying that the L67, being a newer engine, will cost more than turbocharging a 3.1, probably even after rebuilding the 3.1 with lower compression pistons, valve job, etc. just my opinion of course....i mean i own a TGP engine and a 213,000 n/a 3.1 that still can spin the tires thru 1st....so i guess i'm biased. i'm sure if i had an L67 i'd love that too joshua
timbit_69
well here in canada the insurance is diffrent it is manditory for a lot of options that the US has. here we can't just have liability. well ia m21 but it would be $5600/year for a 91 ford Escort GT. On a LUMINA it would be about $4500/ year.

phantomFE3
if your looking for cheap speed, sell the w-body and buy a mustang 5.0 in good condition, you can get one in fairly good shape for a decent price, and that will be a hell of alot faster than your 3.1, unless you turbo it, then it will only be a little bit faster Touche.... But the old saying goes "speed costs money, so how fast do you want to go?" there is another one that goes.. "there is no replacement for displacement"
topless94style
I pay $108 a month on my car. It you want to keep the 3.1 port polish valve job will add a good amount of power. Exhaust pulley chip stuff like that. I almost bought a Dodge Avenger before i bought my car, a 1997 with the 2.5 V6. Ha, they wanted $7000 a year insurance because i would have to finance the car. It was a grand more than what i paid for the Cut. I am 18 no tickets no recorded accidents.
