94vertluvr Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Hey, can anyone give me the cylinder compression reading for a 'healthy' 3.4L? Thanks in advance!!! Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 normal is 100psi or more, with no more than a 30% difference between the highest and lowest cylinder. Quote

kuntzie Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 noemal should be well over 100, like 195-200psi id consider 160 to still be "ok" Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 that may be, but according to alldata, 100PSI is the service limit. anything less is cause for reuild/inspection. Quote
94vertluvr Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 So should I be looking for 160 out of a low mileage engine then at least for assessment purposes to make sure this is indeed a low mileage engine? noemal should be well over 100, like 195-200psi id consider 160 to still be "ok" Quote
Galaxie500XL Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Well, it's a good indication that the rings are good, and the valves aren't burnt...always good things. As far as using a compression check to verify low mileage, that I'm not as certain about... A good visual inspection, compression test, and if possible seeing it run starts you off on the right foot. Even then, occasionally you might get burned. Quote
