Marcus18
I changed my rear pads today because It was metal on metal. I took it down the road to see if there was a increase in braking power and it seemed to be dragging. when I got back I noticed smoke coming from the wheels and the rotors were blue. what would cause this? marcus
topless94style
e-brake isnt on? no disc quiet on the pads? the pins slide freely?
Marcus18
the e-brak isn't on. it's both sides. there are no pins on the rear. there really tight though. I though they might no be backing down. but what would change since the new pads? on both sides that would make them do that? marcus
Guest TurboSedan
did you turn the piston back into the bore before the pad change? i'm assuming you did but it's just an idea :?: if you didn't it would probably be impossible to install the pads correctly anyway. there should be slider pins on the rear calipers. maybe they are stuck? pre '94 rear disc brake calipers are notorious for that. the E-brake could actually be stuck even if you released the pedal inside the car (stuck @ the caliper maybe?). good luck joshua
tgpguy21
you might also want to check and see if your rotors are bent??

mjmich
Same thing happened to me, Had brand new rotors and pads installed, used the E brake a week later and it froze up. On the rear passenger side the pads wore down to the metal and warped the rotor. Had to manually disengage the cable and put new pads on and turn the rotors. 92turboLE
you have a stuck piston on your caliper... i had the problem once.... got on the freeway cuz i didnt think anything about it, had to pull over cuz my right rear locked up completely.... i had to take the tire off, get tooks, take the caliper off, and literally break the pads off of the rotor... this was after extinguishing the large fire pouring out of my wheel well and the glowing red rotor. had to drive home using only enbgine braking until i got in the driveway cuz i had no right rear brakes... It weas at like 3am so it wasnt a big deal at all. it was an interesting night for me that night was - Justin

scorpion_x9
I had the same problem but I also set the e-brake most of the time while I'm park and it would stick and there was play in the e-brake pedal. I made an idiot mistake of using a C-Clamp one day while replacing the pads on the rear caliper and apparently damaged it in doing so, and I just replaced the caliper. Dannymik
When everything was installed did you check if the rotor spun easily before putting the tire on? I had this problem on mine after new pads and rotors were installed. I couldn't spin the rotor at all. The cause for this was the e-cable was a tad bit too short engaging the caliper. Then after driving a couple weeks I would warp the rotor. I did this 2 or 3 times before I found the problem.
